Last April 14 and 15, 2014, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office IX (OWWA-9) successfully conducted a 2-day training on Organizational Development Training (ODT), Entrepreneurship Development Training (EDT), Financial Literacy and Values Formation (Personality Development as an Entrepreneur) among OFWs at Bajamunde, Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte.

The training was participated by 131 active and former Overseas Filipino Workers, to wit: 60 from Dipolog City and 71 from Dapitan City.

According to RWO-9 Regional Director Hassan Gabra T. Jumdain, the training was a commitment of OWWA-9 to the OFWs and their dependents in Zamboanga del Norte which was supposed to be conducted last November 2013.

The objectives of the training were focused on the formation of new OFW Family Circle (OFC), strengthening and counselling of inactive OFCs and prepare OFC leaders as OWWA helping arm in the information dissemination of programs and services. It also enlightened the participants on basic entrepreneurial skills, preparation of business plan and product marketing based on the need of the community.

During the 2-day training, OFW participants had a good grasp on how to manage existing business, values and basic accounting. To a greater extent, this endeavour could lead to possible employment generation in their respective community thus realizing the greatest fulfilment of OWWA which is to help uplift the lives of many Filipinos as possible.

The 2-day training was in coordination with the institutional partners of OWWA such as LandBank of the Philippines, Department of Trade and Industry, Jose Rizal Memorial State University (Main Campus) and the Department of Labor and Employment Provincial Office.

“Our institutional partnerships with Land Bank of the Philippines, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Academe, NGO and our OFC leaders has always been an encouragement to the RWO-9 in the active delivery of services to our clientele and the community in our area of jurisdiction in Zamboanga Peninsula,” said Jumdain.

Director Jumdain, as the head of RWO9, personally facilitated in the 2-day training and engaged the participants in a Talakayan Forum where the OFWs where able to express their concerns and gratitude to the agency.

OWWA-9 targets to conduct the same training in the Municipality of Cabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay and Isabela City, Basilan.
