The Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) spearheaded by its President Dr. Ricardo E. Rotoras donated P200,000 to Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology employees who were victims of the September 2013 Zamboanga siege.

Among the colleges and universities who became victims  of typhoon Yolanda and the Zamboanga siege, ZSCMST received the highest category share, the said amount was converted to household supplies (gas stove with  accessories, 11 kgs of LPG, casserole, plastic cabinets ) and equally distributed to the 48 recipients. The doleout was spearheaded by the President of the College, Dr. Milavel Depacaquivo-Nazario. in coordination with the designated  committee composed of Dr. Nelson P. Cabral, Vice President for External Affairs, who headed the committee,  Prof. Letecia P. Flores, Faculty Club President. and Mr. Alvin E. Reyes,  Director, Corporate Affairs.

A turnover ceremony was set last May 31, 2014 at the Octagon Hall of ZSCMST. The amount donated by the  PASUC was intended to be given to only 39 ZSCMST Staff House employees who lost their houses but the College President included nine other employees who were residents of nearby barangays Sta. Barbara, Ayer Village and Lustre whom she believes must be given equal share and importance.

The recipient-employees related that they still felt the trauma brought about by the annihilation but they accepted the donation with great deal of appreciation and they considered it as a prompt that a memorable event was experienced. They all went home wearing  smiles  on their faces and were so grateful to the Committee concerned, the College President and the PASUC that during the tough times all state colleges and universities unified.
