PENRO Sibugay inks NGP’s LOA PDF Print E-mail

The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Zamboanga Sibugay of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) last July 2, 2014 signed the Letter of Agreement (LOA) together with about 20 Peoples’ Organizations (POs) which now unifies the activities to be undertaken under the National Greening Program (NGP). The signing happened at Senior Citizen Function Hall, DSWD Building, Ipil, ZamboangaSibugay.

The signing of the agreement was witnessed by the Local Government Units of the Municipalities involved in the greening program. The officials present were Hon. SB Member Roger Guinanad and Hon. SB Member Alberto Alcoreza representing Ipil Mayor EldwinAlibutdan, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO) Ronie Manuel representing Tungawan Mayor Randy Climaco and Ipil MENRO Felix Badon.

PENRO Dante A. Oporto signed the LOA together with the different PO Chairmen while signing as witnesses are DENR CENRO IpilNemesio Ancheta, PENRO Accountant Elvira Belotendos, and one (1) member representing each PO. There are about twenty (20) POs including LGU supported projects all over the municipalities of Ipil, Tungawan, RT Lim, and Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Before the signing of the agreement, a short program was conducted where PENRO Oporto took time to inform the stakeholders that the document to be unfolded is a unified Letter of Agreement where activities for the greening program is presented into one agreement. These activities for implementation are Seedling Production Contracts, Site Preparation/Plantation Establishment and Maintenance and Protection for Year 1 (CY 2014).

For this year, ongoing activity is the seedling production by the Peoples’ Organization. Site Preparation and Plantation establishment usually occur at the onset of the rainy season. Maintenance and Protection shall be for Year 1 (2014).

NGP targets for this year is planting of about 250,000 mangrove seedlings within 100 hectares to be implemented by seven (7) POs. Greening projects in the upland areas involve about 380,000 budded rubber seedlings and 560,000 rubber seedlings to be planted by thirteen (13) POs  in 1,840 hectares. All in all, seedlings to be produced this year is about one million one hundred seventy thousand (1,170,000) mangrove and rubber seedlings. PENRO Zamboanga Sibugay News Information Center
