IP Youth, OSY tap as advocates for Climate Change PDF Print E-mail

IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay – Indegenous People-students and Out-of-school-youth thru the guidance of the Philppine Information Agency (PIA)9 organized themselves as Youth for Climate Change (YCC)  who shall  serve as movers for Climate Change Avdocacy Campaign.

PIA-9 Assistant Regional Director Franklin Gumapon said the role of YCC is to serve as information dessminators on disaster response and environmental protectection of their respective IP communities.

“We tap their services as our direct contact because IP communities are vulnerable to climate change,” Gumapon explained.

“No one will be spared from the severe consequences of cimate change”, he added.

Gumapon said the negative effects of climate change are already beginning to be felt in every part of the world and yet many people are ill-pepared for the potentially immense impacts on food security, water supplies and human health.

The YCC was formed following the two-day Journalistic Writing Workshop for IP college students and out-of-school youths (OSYs) conducted by the PIA9, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP)-9, and United States (US) Embassy on July 17-18.

The YCC-Zamboanga Sibugay Chapter had their election of officers Thursday. Newly elected officers are: President – Radzme H. Lindet (Dr. A.M.M.C.), Vice-President- Elvin Abucilas (Dr. A.M.M.C), Secretary- Shorla May Dela Cruz (Western Mindanao State University- External Studies Uinit, Naga), Treasurer- Diana Rose T. Utal (WMSU-ESU, Siay), Auditor – Rico Sanggiran (WMSU-ESU, Ipil), Business Manager- Syloyd Van Tulawa (Sibugay Technical Institute, Inc.) and Public Information Officer - Reneibal Lumigis (Sibugay Technical Institute, Inc).
