The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has advised the barangays here to organize their respective fire volunteer brigades.

Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD) Fire Marshall Supt. Dominador Zabala, Jr. said Thursday that it is important to have fire volunteer brigades especially for far-flung barangays since they will serve as the first responders in fire incidents.

“While the firefighters are still on the way, they can already do firefighting efforts,” Zabala added.

Zabala said that so far seven of this city’s 98 barangays have their respective fire volunteer brigades.

These are the barangays of Baliwasan, Canelar, Cawit, Manicahan, Sta. Maria, Sto. Niño, and Tetuan.

Zabala said barangay officials can coordinate with his office for training of members of the fire volunteer brigades on basic firefighting.

He added the training is just for five days.
