Retired MSU-TCTO official gets ABS-CBN Award PDF Print E-mail

A retired official of the Mindanao State University-Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography (MSU-TCTO) was recently a recipient of the ABS CBN Gawad Genny Lopez Bayaning Pilipino award for Visayas and Mindanao for being “Iron Man of the oceans and nature “for his environmental management work in Tawi-Tawi under the auspices of the NGO World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Philippines.

The award is given only to Filipinos who are found to have shown exemplary achievements and dedication to public service of which Prof. Prof. Filemon G. Romero is peerless.

Romero was the campus secretary and later chairman of the academic department before he was appointed chancellor of MSU- TCTO in 1993. He graduated his PhD on Environmental Science at the UP, Diliman and held also the positions of Professor 6 and Director, Coastal Resource Center when he retired from service on July 24, 2013. At present Prof. Romero is professor emeritus and concurrently project leader of the DOST funded researches on coral rehabilitation, sexual coral culture, blue crab assessment, sardines fisheries and Mameng fisheries under the auspices of the CHED. Being a many splendored man, ABS-CBN has added a feather to the cap of Prof. Romero by having chosen him as the recipient of the phenomenal Gawad Genny Lopez Bayaning Pilipino award for the Visayas and Mindanao. Tawi-Tawi tips its hat to Prof. Filemon “Mon” Guerzon Romero for bringing honor and glory to the province.
