The City Council has passed Resolution No. 320 commending Andy Mark Serna Barroca, San Mig’s “Coffee Prince”,  for bringing honor and glory to Zamboanga City in the field of basketball.

Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde handed over the resolution to Barroca at the Council  session hall yesterday.

Barroca is the first Zamboangueño to be awarded the title of San Mig’s “Coffee Prince” and Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the PBA All-Filipino Cup, both prestigious awards in Philippine basketball.

“This is another honor and glory for all Zamboangueños,” said District 2 Councilor Roel “Elong” Natividad, chairman of the Council’s Committee on Youth and Sports and proponent of the Resolution No. 320

Barroca, a true-blooded Zamboangueño and PBA star player is a resident of Barangay Recodo. He started his early years as a known basketball player at the Recodo Elementary School. He  became one of the varsity scholars of the Ayala National High School, a distance runner and a member of the Zamboanga Athletic Team.

During his early years in college at the Universidad De Zamboanga as a basketball player, he was noticed by the Far Eastern University (FEU) where he later played before joining Smart Gilas Filipinas team.

Barroca was then drafted to San Mig Coffee Mixers where he topnotched other cage players and was awarded as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) during the PBA All-Filipino Conference.
