IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay – We are hopeful that in the coming weeks and months, the community will commit the same unwavering support to the army as we continue to deliver steadfast service to the public, said Col. Ignacio A. Obligacion in a statement.

The 102nd Infantry “Igsoon” Brigade of the 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division, Philippine Army on Saturday celebrated its 41st Founding Anniversary with the theme, “Apatnapu’t isang taong Kaagapay ng Mamamayan tungo sa tunay na Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran.”

Town mayors and other local officials of Ipil town, as well as heads of offices from different national government agencies attended the event.

“I am happy to announce that we are a thread close to achieving our goal of making Zamboanga Sibugay province conflict-manageable and development-ready,” said Col. Obligacion.

He further disclosed that they intend to accomplish the task by third week of November, this year.

“It will not be an easy task and we will not guarantee a total eradication of the rebel groups, but they will no longer have the political structure they once have,” he explained.

Brigadier General Gerardo F. Barrientos Jr., 1st ID’s commanding general and former commanding officer of the 102nd Brigade lauded Obligacion for continuing his development efforts for the army and for the Sibugaynons.

“Our army is the most reliable partner in nation building. Our very objective is geared toward an army that is the pride of the country, and eventually the pride of the world,” said Gen. Barrientos.

Among the activities conducted during the anniversary were: fun run, games, and sports tournament which was conducted earlier. Awards were given to exemplary soldiers and to the winners of the games after the short program. — ALT/EDT/PIA9-Zamboanga Sibugay
