DIPOLOG CITY — Mayor Evelyn T. Uy of this city has delivered on Tuesday last week her State of the Children Address (SOCA) at the Zamboanga del Norte Convention and Sports Center here, announcing that the city has been consistently awarded as child-friendly city since 2010 to 2013.

“Dipolog is a hall of famer awardee for the Most Child Friendly City in 2013. This award is not only dedicated to the city government but also to Dipolognons and nonresidents here who had strongly supported our cause,” Mayor Uy said.

She also emphasized that the children have rights to survival, development, protection and participation.

One major contribution for this award, the lady mayor said, was the active participation of 2,035 Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) couples in Family Development Sessions, which are teaching them the proper ways of rearing their children.

The mayor also reported that the Alternative Learning System (ALS) of the Department of Education (DepEd), Livelihood Skills Development and Enhancement Center (LSDEC), Alay Lakad Council, Local School Board, Center for Social Concerns and Development (CESCOD), Zamboanga del Norte Press Club (ZNPC), Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc., Regional Rehabilitation Center for the Youth, Dipolog PNP, Regional and Municipal Trial Courts in Cities and City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) were just among the programs and/or organizations helping the city achieve the award.

“Since we launched the ‘Sports Events Center of the South 2020’ we have seen several sports events in the city opening doors for our children,” Uy added.

In the same event, Central Barangay was given recognition as the Most Child Friendly Barangay in urban category, Barangay Sicayab for the suburban category, Barangay Punta for rural category and Barangay Diwan as “Most Improved Barangay.” — FPG/MAA/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte
