30 DSWD bunkhouses, 32 single detached core shelter for IDPs completed PDF Print E-mail

Cabatangan, Zamboanga City – The 545th Engineer Construction Battalion, 52nd EBde, PA, completed the construction of additional 30- units bunkhouses on-stilt with facilities such as 15 units Boardwalk on-stilt (1.2 m x 62.4 linear meters); 15 units Latrine and Bathing facilities; and 8 units Septic Vaults on 11 December 2014 .

Likewise, at about the same time, same unit also completed the construction of the 32-units Single Detached Core Shelter on 10 December 2014.

Both projects mentioned above were constructed at Sitio Masepla, Barangay Mampang, Zamboanga City except for the first 18-units of Single Detached Core Shelter which were constructed at Sitio Paniran,Sta Catalina, both of Zamboanga City.

Every single unit of the 30 bunkhouses is consists of 24 rooms each with a total of 720 rooms all together, which is good enough to accommodate 720 families of IDPs. While the 32- units Single Detached Core Shelter could accommodate another 32 families.

The construction of the 30-units bunkhouses on-stilt with facilities was based on the Supplementary Memorandum of Agreement (SMOA) entered between the 52E, PA and DSWD Field Office IX dated 02 September 2014 with a cost of Php 31,232,422.00 pesos. Under the said SMOA, the 545ECB, 52EBde, PA should complete the construction of the above projects on or before December 15, 2014. Hence, in order to meet the deadline set forth in the agreement, LTC ARNEL F FERNANDEZ CE (GSC) PA, CO, 545ECB, 52EBde, PA employed three Project Officers and fifty three Enlisted Personnel of this unit to be directly involved in the construction of the project. In addition, a total of one hundred sixty civilian workers (77 Carpenters and 83 Laborers), mostly are IDPs and are among the recipients of the bunkhouses were hired in order to speed up its completion. The construction was started on 20 September 2014 and was successfully completed on 11 December 2014, four days earlier than the target date of completion as stipulated in the SMOA.

On the other hand, the construction of 32-units Single Detached Core Shelter at Sitio Paniran, Sta. Catalina, Zamboanga City was based on another SMOA entered between the 52E, PA and DSWD Field Office IX dated 11 February 2014 with a cost of PhP 1,408, 000.00 Pesos. Based on the original plan, all the 32-units Core Shelter supposed to be constructed at Sitio Paniran,Sta Catalina, however, due to the inadequacy of available space in the area, the 14-units were relocated and constructed at  Sitio Masepla, Barangay Mampang, Zamboanga City alongside the bunkhouses projects.

Formal and official turn-over of the above said projects to the DSWD is forthcoming.
