Ø Mayor Beng Climaco during the Senate hearing on the smuggling issue Tuesday reiterated her request for a written set of rules to be followed by law enforcement agencies and the local government unit in the conduct of anti-smuggling campaigns. She likewise asked that the result of the probe on the missing sugar in the custody of the Bureau of Customs at the local port be furnished to the LGU and that administrative and criminal charges must be immediately filed against those involved in the illegal activity.

Ø Senator Cynthia Villar, chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food was in Zamboanga Tuesday to preside over a Senate hearing on the smuggling of rice and sugar in the city.

Ø El Lampara of the Zamboanga City High School-Main won the title in the Drum and Lyre competition while the Hawks Pep Squad from the Western Mindanao State University topped the Cheer Dance contest held at the City Coliseum Tuesday afternoon as part of the 78th Dia de Zamboanga highlights.

Ø Winners in the Zamboanga Film Festival will be awarded in a formal ceremony set Wednesday night (Feb. 25) at Centro Latino which will also coincide with the conferment of the 2015 Local Achievers Award.

Ø The City Government of Zamboanga and UNICEF Philippines completed the 2-day Joint Planning Workshop which form the basis for the implementation of the GPH-UNICEF Country Programme of Cooperation and Emergency Recovery Response to the September 2013 Humanitarian Crisis in the City of Zamboanga from February 2015-end December 2016.

Ø The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will handover seaweed stilt dryers to families in Leha-leha February 26.

Ø The Red Cross Zamboanga Chapter has received two water tankers from the national headquarters (NHQ) to help augment the delivery of water in Masepla. The tankers will be stationed in the city for 3 months. Likewise, one unit rescue boat has also arrived from the NHQ.

Ø February 25 is a special holiday for schools nationwide in line with the commemoration of the People Power Edsa Revolution.
