Ø Zamboanga City celebrates on Thursday, Feb. 26 a triumphant milestone marking the day when the first set of appointed officials of the city were formally installed into office 78 years ago. Spanish Ambassador Luis Antonio Calvo will be the City’s honoured guest during a 4pm commemorative program that will be preceded by a grand civic military parade from Ledesma Street to Paseo del Mar at 3pm. Feb. 26 is declared a special non-working day in Zamboanga per Presidential Proclamation 970.

Ø To ensure security and orderly conduct of the Dia de Zamboanga activities on Thursday, Mayor Beng Climaco issued Executive Order 100-2015 ordering the temporary closure of some streets to vehicular traffic and prohibiting backpacks downtown Zamboanga.

Ordered temporarily closed are Ledesma Street, Mayor Climaco Avenue (fronting the Bureau of Fire Protection), section of J.S. Alano St. and Valderrosa St. up to Paseo de Mar from 12 noon to 4 p.m. today. The order also prohibits parking of motorcycles and bringing of backpacks in downtown Zamboanga, particularly on the streets and areas considered as security buffer zone, namely; Alejo Alvarez St., Varela St., Plaza Pershing, I. Magno St., Don Pablo Lorenzo St., Zaragoza St., Rizal St., Corcuera St., Pablo Burgos St., Villalobos St., Capt. Marcos St., and Pettit Barracks.

Ø The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will turn over seaweed stilt dryers to families in Leha-leha February 26.

Ø A Jobs Fair, organized by PESO-CSWDO is set Feb. 26 from 8am-3pm at the Red Cross Training Center. 18 local agencies with 1,335 vacancies and 10 overseas recruitment agencies with close to 10,000 job orders are participating in the fair. It’s a joint undertaking with DOLE, TESDA and POEA in celebration of the 78th Dia de Zamboanga.
