Another beauty and nature park recently discovered by Discovery Zamboanga is the “St. Francis Camp” in sitio Anuling of Barangay Pamucutan, some  30 kilometers west of Zamboanga City.

The place is called “St Francis Camp” after Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of the St Francis House orphanage held their overnight camping last June 4, the first group to hold an encampment in the area.

Discovery Zamboanga, a local group of development communicators, learned that the place had no name but many people have already frequented and held their picnics before the first scouting camping was made.

Pamucutan Barangay Kagawad Salvador Serna, the caretaker of the area, said “St Francis Camp” is the favorite picnic ground of people from the westcoast barangays and including those from the city proper.

Serna boasted that the place is the nearest of all the picnic grounds in Anuling, which is known for its different waterfalls, as it is just few steps away from Anuling’s mainroad. Among its attractions are the “stonehouse”, which Serna himself built a hut atop a rock for visitors, the 15-feet deep river basin, the cool river water, a place for camping among others.

“We assure the security of our visitors here and we want them to come and enjoy the beauty of this picnic ground,” said Serna as he revealed that Pamucutan wants to be the alternative tourist spot of Zamboanga City.

Pamucutan Barangay Chairman Romy Serna has assigned Kagawad Edilberto Edil and Kagawad Serna to head the barangay’s tourism campaign with the support of Discovery Zamboanga through the featuring the different scenic and natural picnic and tourism-oriented grounds of Anuling. --BONG BUE
