DOÑA CECILIA, SIRAWAI, ZDN – The 44th Infantry (Agile and Stable) Battalion, in collaboration with the Department of Education, successfully participated in the National Maintenance Week dubbed as: Brigada Eskwela conducted on May 23-27, 2011.

Brigada Eskwela is a major activity of the DepEd supported by the Armed Forces of the Philippines annually.  Believing that education is essential in the attainment of peace in the area, 44th IB troopers under Lt. Col. Alex S. Rillera INF (GSC) PA are always inspired and eager to work with DepEd officials.  In fact, at present, 44th IB has three ongoing Army Literacy Patrol System (ALPS) programs in the area which are providing basic education on reading, writing, and simple arithmetic for uneducated and/or out of school citizens.  ALPS and Brigada Eskwela are but among the many activities done by 44th IB in collaboration with local DepEd officials.

Alpha Company, 44th IB based in Poblacion, Sibuco, ZDN in collaboration with Mr. Reynaldo Sioco, Principal, Sibuco Central School conducted Brigada Eskwela last May 23 to 27, 2011.  The activities carried out were trimming of grasses, sweeping and subsequent garbage disposal.  This activity opens up interaction and cooperation within the community and allows civilians to work side by side with the military.  The activity was participated in by some 100 citizens.

Bravo Company, 44th IB based in New Lituban, Siocon, ZDN targeted different schools in its area of responsibility.  The following schools were benefited from the active participation of Bravo Company Troopers at different schools namely; Siocon Central School; New Lituban Elementary School; Ybarsabal Elementary School; Sta. Maria Elementary School; Siocon National High School, all of Siocon Municipality and Baliguian Central School, Baliguian, ZDN.  These efforts were made possible through the collaboration of 1Lt Mauricio P. Kilbas (INF) PA with Miss Araceli C. Tomboc, DepEd District Supervisor of Siocon, ZDN.

Charlie Company, 44th IB based in Canuto Enerio, Gutalac, ZDN participated in the conduct of Brigada Eskwela at Gutalac National High School Extension last May 24, 2011 and at Gutalac Elementary School on May 25, 2011.  Two squads accomplished the cutting of grasses, sweeping of trashes, and painting of dilapidated school chairs.  Parents, teachers and students of Gutalac National High School Extension and Brgy Officials of Brgy Canuto Enerio, Gutalac, ZDN likewise actively participated in the conduct of Brigada Eskwela.

Finally, Headquarters Company, 44th IB based in Doña Cecilia, Sirawai, ZDN willingly participated in the Brigada Eswela at Sirawai Central School, Sirawai, ZDN.  The activity started with a simple opening program beginning with the Opening Prayer, singing of National Anthem and ZANORTE Hymn, Words of Welcome, Presentation of Volunteers and Stakeholders and Inspirational Messages.  After the opening program, the 44th IB troopers with their cleaning materials such as bolo, sickle and broom immediately joined with the parents and pupils to clean the grassy ground in front of the school building.  Meanwhile, the 44th IB carpenters took charge in cutting the plywoods and repaired broken arm chairs.  The activity was a beautiful picture of diverse people working together to achieve a common purpose.
