44th IB holds simultaneous MEDCAP in Tampilisan, ZN PDF Print E-mail

DOÑA CECILIA, SIRAWAI, Zamboanga del Norte– The 44th Infantry (Agile N’ Stable) Battalion under the leadership of Lt. Col.  Alex S. Rillera and the Local Government Unit of Tampilisan, ZDN successfully conducted simultaneous Joint Medical and Dental Civic Action Program (MEDCAP) in three barangays, namely; Situbo, Farmington, and Sandayong, all of Tampilisan, Zamboanga Del Norte.

The municipality of Tampilisan was once of baronage of the municipality of Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte.  It is located in the southernmost tip of the province of Zamboanga del Norte along the boundary line of the Zamboanga Sibugay, traversed by the national highway to Zamboanga City.  The municipality has a distance of 152 kilometers from Dipolog, the capital city of the province.

The name Tampilisan originated from the tree called “Tampilis”.  This tree is about one to three fathoms in height and belongs to the palm family. Its sturdy part when split was used by the native subanen tribes as rafters and siding of their huts.  The fruits were used for the chewing of “mama” as a substitute for betel nuts.  Since this tree was abundant in the area, the place thus called by the natives as “Tampilisan”.

The Peace and Development Operations (PDO) in the area being conducted by the 44th Infantry (Agile N’ Stable) Battalion started last June 30, 2011.  One objective of this operation is to facilitate in the implementation of Government Programs and Services thus the Peace and Development Activity (PDA) carried out was MEDCAP in the three  named Barangay of Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte.

On July 18, 2011, the successful MEDCAP at Barangay Situbo, Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte provided the following free services with corresponding number of beneficiaries; Haircut – 84, Dental (Tooth Extraction) - 32, Circumcision - 68, B/P Check-up - 30, Medical Check-up/ Consultation – 90 and Immunization - 28 for a total of more or less 332 local residents benefited.  The residents were given also free medicines for various ailments.

On July 20, 2011, the meaningful MEDCAP at Barangay Farmington, Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte has a total of 849 beneficiaries.  Of the total beneficiaries, 303 have availed of free medicine and vitamins, 47 have availed of free circumcision, 48 have availed of free haircut, 33 have availed of free tooth extraction, 270 have availed of free medical consultation, 130 have availed of free B/P check-up and 18 have availed of free immunization. 

On July 28, 2011, the momentous MEDCAP at Barangay Sandayong, Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte benefited a total of 741 residents from the services rendered by the Agile N’ Stable Battalion and RHU of Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte broken down as follows; distribution of free medicine and vitamins – 187, Circumcision – 57, Haircut – 55, Dental (Tooth Extraction) – 34, Medical Consultation – 177 and B/P Check-up – 231.
