President Benigno S. Aquino III recently welcomed the launch here of the German-based firm Linde Philippines, encouraging it to consider marshalling its knowledge and expertise in gas distribution and related engineering services for the Philippines.

The Linde Group formally launched its Philippine operations in high-production fashion on October 20 in Makati City, Metro Manila.

The President’s hopes were expressed through Energy Undersecretary Ramon V. Oca, who was among those who attended the launch along with German Ambassador to the Philippines, Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lortsch.

Oca said German participation could further develop the natural gas and industrial gas potential of the Philippines.

The new Undersecretary for International Economic Relations of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Antonio V. Rodriguez, Philippine Export Zone Authority Director-General and Trade and Industry Undersecretary Lilia B. De Lima also joined the launching activity.

Linde Philippines is the merging of the Consolidated Industrial Gases of Luzon and the Southern Industrial Gases in the Visayas and Mindanao.

According to the DFA, the company now becomes the leading supplier of industrial and medical gases in the country.

Linde Philippines Country Manager Dennis Jordan paid tribute to the tireless efforts of the company's Filipino workforce to make the organization the best in the industry.

Meanwhile, Linde Group Regional Business Unit Head for South and East Asia Sanjiv Lamba indicated increased investments in the country in addition to the P3 billion worth of plant upgrades in Luzon and the Visayas over the past two years.

The presence of Linde Philippines here is expected to further strengthen Philippine-German economic ties and encourage German business groups to consider investing further in the country, DFA noted.

Head of Cluster Countries for Linde South and East Asia Lee Bon Hian led the toast at the launching.
