44th IB completes ALPS program for 1st semester PDF Print E-mail

DOÑA CECILIA, SIRAWAI – The 44th Infantry (Agile N’ Stable) Battalion has successfully completed a total of six Army Literacy Patrol System (ALPS) Program in its area of operation for the 1st Semester of this year.

The low level of literacy of the locals in some parts of the area of operation of 44IB made it a good target for the conduct of ALPS program.  Essentially, ALPS is one of the major Civil Military Operations (CMO) weapon of the Philippine Army which aims to provide basic education (3R’s) of Reading, Writing and Arithmetic and livelihood skills to unschooled or out of school citizens of remote barangays.

In line with the intent and spirit of AFP IPSP “BAYANIHAN”, the Army nowadays does not only conduct combat operations to seek the enemy but in a more worthwhile passion performs humanitarian endeavor as well in the form of ALPS Program to reach out far flung areas in order to educate the less fortunate Filipino people.
Headquarters Company, 44IB based in Doña Cecilia, Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte successfully completed the ALPS Program in Brgy. Catuyan and Brgy Bitugan, Municipality of Sirawai, last April 28, 2011 and June 17, 2011 in that order.  A total of 48 students successfully completed the six-month lectures and livelihood skills training.

Alpha Company, 44IB based in Poblacion, Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte successfully initiated the ALPS Program in Brgy. Sto. Niño and Sitio Nasal, Brgy. Puliran, Municipality of Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte which were completed last February 12, 2011 and July 26, 2011, respectively.  A total of 93 students successfully completed the prescribed period of training.

Bravo Company, 44IB based in New Lituban, Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte and Charlie Company, 44IB based in Canuto Enerio, Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte targeted their ALPS Program in Sitio Busicong, Brgy. Sta.Maria, Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte and in Brgy New Salvacion, Labason, Zamboanga del Norte which officially closed last May 21, 2011 and July 16, 2011, respectively.  A total of 62 students efficiently completed the six-month lectures and livelihood skills training.

From all successfully concluded ALPS Program, Mrs. Lumina M. Camin of Brgy New Salvacion, Labason, Zamboanga del Norte who was born on June 8, 1940 was named as the eldest female completer of the program with her age of 72..  Likewise, Mr. Melosin P. Enong of Sitio Busicong, Brgy. Sta. Maria, Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte who was born on October 22, 1934 was named as the eldest male completer of the program with his age of 77.

A total of 203 unschooled/out of school citizens of Zamboanga del Norte benefited from the ALPS program conducted by the Agile N’ Stable Battalion.  All ALPS completers received their Certificate of Completion, ALPS t-shirt and free assorted goods, such as; rice, sardines and noodles as a humble reward or gift for their effort.

Lt. Col. Alex S. Rillera, Commanding Officer of the 44IB was very thankful to persons who contributed in one way or another for the success of the activity.  Yes it was a mission, but sometimes we need to do more than what is supposed to be done and what is expected if only to extend more help to the less privileged members of our society.The 44th IB shall remains committed in pursuing peace and development for the betterment of future generations.
