Mayor Celso L. Lobregat was recently updated by Culianan National High School principal Lutchi Castelo-Rimando on the ongoing construction of a three-storey, nine-classroom building in the area.

The school edifice, one of the latest infrastructure projects embarked by the city government, has a project cost of P7, 910,518.01.

Started on September 30, 2010, the new building is expected to be completed in 220 calendar days or seven months and 10 days.

Rimando, in her personal report to Lobregat last week, said close to five percent of the project has been undertaken by the contractor, Engineer Darunday, who, she noted, has been religiously supervising the day-to-day work.

According to Rimando, she has also instructed her industrial arts teacher Christopher Remut to help oversee the project.

The principal said the three-storey building, once completed, will help ease the acute shortage of rooms in the learning center and ultimately help upgrade the instructional competencies of teachers and the academic performance of local students.

Culianan NHS, considered one of the top performing secondary institutions in Zamboanga City, is the pilot school in Western Mindanao of the Department of Education’s “Project Sterling Silver” and the city’s pilot learning center for the DepEd’s “Whole-School Approach in Teaching Reading and Writing.”
