The St. Francis House of the Our Blessed Mother of Victory Mission Foundation Inc. is celebrating today (Oct. 4) its 24th year anniversary with a commemorative program at the orphanage center in Pasonanca Park, this city.

Local benefactors of the St. Francis House have been invited to the program tonight where over 60 wards of the St Francis House will give their special presentations as a form of gratitude to those who have been helping the orphanage.

Canadian priest Fr. Arthur Winikoff, founder and director of the St Francis House, had said that this year’s 24th anniversary is a prelude to a much bigger celebraton next year when this longest existing orphanage will mark its silver anniversary.

Winikoff esablished the St Francis House first at Campaner St. sometime in 1988 and initially took care of 15 street children. Today, St Francis House has over wards mostly orphans and abandoned children at its Pasonanca’s orphanage and the St Francis House Drop In Center at Camachile St. in downtown Zamboanga.

He said St Francis House will continue to serve and do its ministry of taking care of the less fortunate children by sending them to schools and keep them away from the streets.

“Many of St Francis House wards are now professionals and are having their own families and lives,” said Winikoff whose foundation has to raise at least half a million pesos a for its yearly budget.
