At least 10 barangays in the city proper— within 15-kilometer radius of Zamboanga City— have been identified as experiencing poor water supply.

These barangays were identified through the complaints aired recently over DXKZ 91.5 Wild FM’s “El Isyu Ahora” public affairs radio program by the residents themselves.
Among the barangays experiencing either no potable water or poor low pressure water  from the faucet are Talon-Talon, Mampang, Arena Blanco, Calarian, Sinunuc, portions of Cabatangan, San Roque, San Jose Gusu, Baliwasan and Sta Catalina.

Th radio opinion survey conducted included people’s reactions about what government priority should be to which many texted and called that water, electricity and other basic needs should first be given attention.

“Mas importante canamon agua y hende ese maga foutains!” said a texter from Mampang. [Water is more important to us than those fountains)

Aside from these 10 barangays within the city proper, most of the barangays outside the 15 kilometers depend much on deepwells. — Bong Bue
