LIFE’S  INSPIRATIONS: “… Your rulers are rebels, partners with thieves; they all love bribes and chase after gift…” (Isaiah 1:23, the Holy Bible).

NO MODERATION OF GREED AMONG LAWMAKERS: Why am I not surprised that 15 incumbent senators and 10 former senators are now being reported as having participated in the P10 billion pork barrel scam allegedly masterminded by Janet Lim Napoles? The reason is that, senators have so much pork barrel funds in their hands that they simply couldn’t resist pocketing them.

If there were no pork barrel funds, there would be no pork barrel scam. But because senators and congressmen are given billions and billions of pesos in taxpayers’ money yearly by way of pork barrel funds even when their job is only to legislate, then, it had been very easy for them to devise ways to divert the money into their own bank accounts.

There was simply no moderation of greed here among our lawmakers. What we are witnessing is a wanton giving-in to their desire or, more appropriately, greed, to amass money, at all cost. No one of our senators and congressmen who are now listed as “commissioners” of Napoles ever thought that what they were doing was wrong, or that, someday, they would be caught and exposed, and penalized for their crimes.

DEATH PENALTY AWAITS PORK PLUNDERERS: Surely, the Bible, in its Ecclesiastes 12:14, has a warning for these plunderers, or at least, for those of them who still profess to believe in God and in His Word: “For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil…” Truly, there is no escaping God, and that final moment of standing before him so we can be judged according to what we said, did, and thought.

The tragedy for these plunderers is that, many are of the mistaken belief that, despite their despicable and insatiable lust for money, God will still forgive them and allow them to escape punishment for their misdeeds. Well, they must read the Bible more conscientiously again, and learn that while God is a loving and forgiving God, He is at the same a just God.

What this means is that, God will still punish those who are sinful in their lives, those who plundered the wealth of their countries and deprived the poor and the marginalized of the benefits they should have received and are entitled to under their laws. Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, Himself made this clear in Matthew 7:24-27 of the Bible, where He said that death awaits sinners.

RULERS, REBELS, THIEVES, BRIBE-CHASERS: The Bible is true after all. In Proverbs 17:23, it is written: “The wicked accept bribes in secret to pervert the course of justice.” In Isaiah 1:23: “Your rulers are rebels, partners with thieves; they all love bribes and chase after gifts. They do not defend the cause of the fatherless; the widow’s case does not come before them…”

In Proverbs 29:4: “By justice a king gives a country stability, but those who are greedy for bribes tear it down.” In Amos 5:12: “For I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins. There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes and deprive the poor of justice in the courts.” In Micah 7:3: “Both hands are skilled in doing evil; the ruler demands gifts, the judge accepts bribes, the powerful dictate what they desire—they all conspire together…”

Where are bribe-takers headed? Job 13:34 says: “…fire will consume the tents of those who love bribes…” In Proverbs 15:27: “… The greedy bring ruin to their households…” Finally, bribe-takers will bring their descendants to hell, too, as Exodus 20:5 says that God will punish the children of sinning parents to the fourth generation.
