LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart…” (Hebrews 4:12, the Holy Bible).

THE BIBLE AS THE POWER OF GOD: Here is a primer on the Holy Bible: did you know that the Bible, as the Word of God, is more than just a book of commands and instructions? Basically, as Romans 1:16 says, the Bible is the “power of God for the salvation of believers”, although some wise guys, using each letter of the Bible, says the Bible actually constitutes “basic instructions before leaving earth” (or “b-i-b-l-e”).

It is also a book that is totally inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16), where each and every word that is printed therein is “living and active”, as Hebrews 4:12 is saying, which can give us good health, prolong our lives, and give us all we need (Proverbs 3:1-2, Isaiah 40:31).

The Bible consists of two parts: the Old Testament, which contains stories about God’s direct relationship with His chosen people, and the New Testament, which contains stories about Jesus Christ, the God who assumed the form of a human being and lived among the people.

THE BOOKS IN THE OLD TESTAMENT OF THE BIBLE: Among Roman Catholics, the Bible contains 73 books, while among Protestants and other Christian groups, the Bible contains only 66 books. The Protestant Bible does not contain the 12 deuterocanonical books which the Catholic Bible contains.

Generally, these are the books found in the Old Testament: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings, 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra and Nehemiah, Tobit, Judith, Esther, 1 and 2 Maccabees, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Songs.

Also, the Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach (Ecclesiasticus), Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Baruch, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zachariah and Malachi.

BIBLICAL PROPHECIES FULFILLED IN OUR TIME: On the other hand, these are the books found in the New Testament: the Gospels according to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John; the Acts of the Apostles, the Letters of St. Paul to the Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 and 2 Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, the Letter to the Hebrews, the Letters of James, 1 and 2 Peter, 1, 2 and 3 John, and Jude and Revelation (the Apocalypse).

There is a long story about this difference in the number of books of the Bible among Catholics and Protestants, but that is obviously no longer worthy of further debate. What is important is the understanding that the Bible represents the Word of God, which must be listened to, meditated on, and then carefully complied with, in order for God’s blessings, guidance, and protection to be enjoyed by believers.

Unfortunately, however, many have now come to belittle and disbelieve the Bible for varied reasons, but what is undeniable is that, many of its prophecies and predictions have unerringly happened, and continue to happen even in this modern age of the 21st century. By the fulfillment of these prophecies and predictions written in its pages, the Bible has proven itself to be ultimate Word of God!
