LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority…” (Hebrews 13:17, the Holy Bible).

TRILLANES DISCLOSURES DESTABILIZING PNOY: Come to think of it, the disclosures of Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV about coup attempts being launched to destabilize or topple the Aquino government should be taken really seriously. Fact is, whether or not Trillanes’ disclosures had some truth in them, his having talked about coup attempts to oust President Aquino is already destabilizing the government.

So, if Trillanes intended to prevent the destabilization of the government by publicly disclosing attempts to kick Aquino out of the presidency by retired and active military generals, he miserably failed to do so, precisely because, with his disclosures, the government is already shaken once again as coup jitters floated wildly around.

WHY DID TRILLANES ANNOUNCE COUP VS. PNOY? This is a very classic case of burning the whole house down in order to kill just one single cockroach or rodent, and, considering his own background as a coup plotter himself, I am sure Trillanes knew the effects or consequences of opening his mouth about ouster attempts against the President, especially in the middle of a political crisis that is even now furiously engulfing his government.

The question therefore is: why did Trillanes still  proceed with his public announcement of a supposed conspiracy to remove Aquino from the presidency, if he, even beforehand, knew that such an announcement would have a negative effect on the President and his beleaguered administration?

WINNING BACK PUBLIC SYMPATHY FOR PNOY: It would seem to me that the objective in all these was simple. It was to create an outpouring of public sympathy for the embattled President, whose popularity and trust ratings kept plummeting down in recent months, as a consequence of widespread dissatisfaction with him on account of his failure to fulfill his campaign promise to end graft and corruption, and of his inexplicable defense of erring allies over the pork barrel issue.

Trillanes’ disclosures could in fact be considered as the “part two” of an on-going political drama to win back support for Aquino, with the first part thereof having been started by Aquino himself earlier, during his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) last July 28, 2014, when he publicly shed a tear or two talking about the attempts on his life during coup attempts against his mother, the first President Aquino.

Talking about attempts to unseat Aquino now, by retired and active generals upon the alleged prodding of detained former President and now Pampanga Representative, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, was aimed at propping the President up in the eyes of the people. Unfortunately, however, Filipinos were not enthusiastic about this scenario, giving a hint that they couldn’t really care less anymore, forcing Aquino’s rah-rah boys to play those attempts down.

2016 OPTION: COUP BY AQUINO GOV’T: But then, I suspect that this is not the end of these coup talks yet. Having been rebuffed by the public’s lack of interest on whether Aquino will be ousted by a coup or not, I expect that the spin masters of the government would now shift their attention to finding out how Aquino can either put his own man in Malacanang in 2016, or allow him to remain in power after that date.

The stakes are too high, if Aquino will cease being in power, by himself or by his surrogate, after 2016. The example of two former presidents being jailed being experienced by Aquino himself is just too horrific to be ignored, especially now that the Supreme Court declared his “disbursement acceleration program” or DAP as illegal, and could constitute a solid basis for either a plunder or graft case. A coup by the Aquino government itself could therefore be a highly appealing option!
