LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?...” (Numbers 23:19, the Holy Bible).

RAINS, FLOODS, HIT RP ONCE AGAIN: September 19, 2014 is another rain-filled and flood-filled day for many parts of the country, particularly Metro Manila and its nearby provinces, courtesy of Typhoon Mario and southwest monsoon. Many, including weather officials, expressed surprise at the intensity of the rains and of the rampaging waters, but, again, let me reiterate: more of this kind of weather disturbance is coming.

By the grace of God, I have been writing about this phenomenon of rains, floods, and strong winds visiting our country with more ferocity and regularity in the days, with the principal thought that there is a warning about their coming, and their destructive and deadly nature. I can only pray now that our people—and the rest of humanity in fact—will now come to the realization that there is nothing we can do about these calamities now, except to read the Bible.

Yes, you read it correctly: fantastic and unbelievable though it may appear to many, the only thing we can do now to avoid the death and destruction coming from rains, floods, and winds is to read the Bible, and understand that they are destined to really come, and that the only way to be victorious over them is to obey the guidelines written therein.

WARNINGS ABOUT RAINS, FLOODS, STRONG WINDS: What is the Bible saying about rains, floods, and strong winds? It is found in what Jesus, our God and Savior, Himself said in Matthew 7:24-27. Let me quote to you these passages now, from the Bible’s New International Version, so you, our dear readers, can understand our point here.

Jesus, in Matthew 7:24-25, said: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”

In Matthew 7:26-27, Jesus said: “ But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

PREDICTIONS ABOUT RAINS, FLOODS, COMING TRUE: Someone may argue that I am interpreting Matthew 7:24-27 quite literally, because, from another point of view, those verses may actually refer to the problems and sufferings a person will have in his life. That maybe a correct interpretation too, but how do you account for the fact that rains, floods, and strong winds have now become a regular part of our lives, as Jesus exactly said, causing death and destruction everywhere?

It should be very clear now, even to those who do not believe in Jesus or in the Bible, that Jesus knew that the rains, floods, and strong winds would come. And it should also be very clear that Jesus prescribed an antidote to the death and destruction that these natural calamities would bring: that is, to listen to His Word, and obey Him.

Consequently, even if our listening to Jesus (that is, reading His Bible) and our obeying Him will not stop the rains, floods, and strong winds from coming, we can rely on His promise that we can be saved from the death and destruction caused by them if we listen to Him by reading His Bible, and obeying Him. There is nothing we will lose if we do this, isn’t it?
