LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… All these curses will come on you. They will pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you did not obey the Lord your God and observe the commands and decrees he gave you…” (Deuteronomy 28:45, the Holy Bible).

FIGHT VS. GLOBAL WARMING IN RP & US: The phenomenon of global warming and climate change is very much in the news during the last two days. The first news about it pertains to the “Mario”-aborted “Walk for Climate” which Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle was supposed to have led last September 19, 2014, to “bring the fight against climate change to the streets”.

The second news pertains to the UN Summit on Climate Change to be held in New York, USA, which is highlighting its annual climate week with a similar “walk for climate” in its streets by world-famous environmentalists and celebrities, and with a speech by “Titanic” star Leonardo DiCaprio on what causes rising seas.

Indeed, these should remind all of us about the deadly gravity that this environmental problem now poses to all humanity. We should all realize that we are now at a stage where global warming and climate change can really cause the death not only of everyone, but of the planet as well. But, let it not be said that we were not warned about all these.

THE REAL PROBLEM ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING: And that is where the real problem lies in our attempts to fight or even just mitigate the death and destruction coming from global warming and climate change. All our efforts are not yielding any positive result because our so-called weather and environmental experts and scientists have been collectively missing out on, or, perhaps, are deliberately ignoring, one important angle on global warming and climate change.

What is this important angle on global warming and climate change that is being ignored, to the detriment of all us, if I may say so? It is its spiritual, or more appropriately, its Biblical, angle. The undeniable truth is that the Christian Bible has a warning about global warming and climate change, and what was its real cause (and, of course, its real and lasting solution).

I am referring, of course, to Deuteronomy 28:15, 22-24. So everyone will understand what these Biblical verses are saying, let me quote them to you, in their pertinent portions, here. Deuteronomy 28:15 says: “…however if you no longer listen to the Lord your God, and no longer obey His commands… all these curses will come upon you and overtake you…”

WARNINGS ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING WE IGNORED: Deuteronomy 28:22-24 talks about these curses. Deuteronomy 28:22 says: “The Lord will strike you with… scorching heat and drought… which will plague you until you perish.” Deuteronomy 28:23 says: “The sky over your head will be bronze, the ground beneath you iron.” Then, Deuteronomy 28:24 says: “The Lord will turn the rain of your country into dust and powder; it will come down from the skies until you are destroyed…”

Clearly, these parts of the Bible very vividly warned all of us of the coming warming of the earth and change of climate everywhere. There is no mistaking what “scorching heat and drought” means, as there is no equivocation about a “bronze sky” and an “iron-like ground”. Too, there is no doubt at all about the meaning of “rain of dust and powder”. All these mean global warming and climate change.

Why were these things warned to happen to mankind? Deuteronomy 28:15 is clear. It is because man no longer listens to God, and no longer obeys Him. Global warming and climate change is a punishment from God. How then do we fight it? Doing the reverse of what brought it to the world, of course, which is, listening to God and obeying Him. This is what we should do to fight this environmental curse. Now!
