LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… I will take vengeance on my adversaries and repay those who hate me…” (Deuteronomy 32:42, the Holy Bible).

REPOST FROM 2010: NO MORE “HONOR AMONG THIEVES” AMONG POLICEMEN? I wrote this on July 15, 2010: “Ever since my days as a police reporter of the defunct Daily Express in 1978, I have always encountered complaints that police officers and their men are ruthless in extorting money from the public, so they could support their lavish lifestyles befitting the rich and the mighty, and their `extended’ families, if you know what I mean.

“But then, it would seem there is no more `honor among thieves’ even among them at the moment, considering the report that Metro Manila Police Director Gen. Boysie Rosales found seven Manila police station chiefs guilty of pocketing the election allowance of their police subordinates who served in the May elections.

PNP SHOULD INCLUDE BIBLE INSTRUCTION IN ITS MORAL VALUES SEMINARS: “What has become of our police officers and men? Many will say they have become more corrupt and graft-prone because of their predilection for the good life, but I say this is because, like the rest of us, many policemen have stopped having the fear and love of God in their hearts, thereby making them capable of doing anything.

“Lest it is forgotten, Jesus has a warning to all of the corrupt: what would profit a man to gain the whole world and yet lose his soul—and the souls of his loved ones as well? Perhaps, for the police, PNP Chief Director General Jesus A. Versoza should strengthen his moral values formation seminars and include Biblical instruction as a required course for every police officer or employee.

WHY HAVE WE LOST THE FEAR AND LOVE OF GOD? “The question really is, why have many of us stopped having the fear and love of God in our hearts? The Bible, in its Romans 1:18-32, gives us the answer.

“It says, in part: `…since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity.

“ `They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.’

“SECOND DEATH” AWAITS THE WICKED AND THE EVIL: “Where are all of these wickedness and evil among men leading us to? Let us hear it from the Bible once again: `…those who do such things deserve death…’ (Romans 1: 32). Confirming this in its Romans 6:23, the Bible also warns: `…For the wages of sin is death…’ And what is frightening here is that, this is not just about physical death—the Bible is actually referring to the `second death’ of a sinner.

“This is how Revelations 21:8 describes `second death’: `…the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death’…”
