LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing…” (Romans 13:6, the Holy Bible).

REPOST FROM 2010: “MEDIAMEN MUST WORK FOR DECRIMINALIZATION OF LIBEL: Our brothers in media must realize that not all of their concerns can be successfully addressed by the Aquino administration in the six years that it will hopefully be in office.

“These concerns are the product of years and years of neglect, and the Aquino government, which has other priorities that it has to attend to, cannot be expected to focus its attention on media alone.

“What mediamen and their organizations must endeavor to do is to accomplish one thing at a time. At this point, what they must aspire to achieve is the absolute decriminalization of libel, and the elevation of all mediamen as persons in authority, both of which will undoubtedly strengthen the Constitutional guarantee of free expression in no time at all.

“OFFICIALS GETTING FAT SALARIES VIOLATED THE LAWS: So, is there any law that was violated by the giving of big salaries and huge allowances to officials of government-owned and controlled corporations? A little research will instantly show that there are at least two laws that were transgressed by this extravagance.

“One is Art. 25 of the Civil Code of the Philippines which says: `Thoughtless extravagance in expenses for pleasure or display during a period of acute public want or emergency maybe by order of the courts at the instance of any government of private charitable institution.’

“Another is Section 3 (e) of Republic Act 3019 (or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act) which punishes the giving of undue advantage or benefit to a government official or any other person at any time.

“LACK OF FEAR AND LOVE OF GOD WILL SEND PEOPLE TO HELL: Why have government officials become so obsessed in getting as much as they could financially from the positions that have been entrusted to them? The only feasible explanation here is that many of these officials no longer have any real fear and love of God in their hearts that they are no longer bothered about committing crimes.

“If these officials have only a mustard-seed fear and love of God in their hearts, they will not aspire for wealth and riches, for then they will know that it would not be good for them to gain the whole world and yet lose their souls in the meantime.

“If they only have the real fear and love of God in their hearts, these officials will understand that the Lord Jesus Christ has given those aspiring to become leaders a very stern admonition: he who wants to lead must be the servant of all and anyone who does not heed this warning will surely go to hell.”
