Christmas marks the joyous celebration of the whole Christendom of the birth of the Savior in Bethlehem where three gift-bearing magi were guided by a star to embark on a journey to find and pay homage to Him. The humility of that journey and the extraordinary faith that guided them to its completion remind us all of our own humble journeys to obtain a just and lasting peace for the Philippines and for all Filipinos.

Let this Christmas be a celebration of peace over conflict, courage over fear, and love above all else. We continue to call for support in our quest for peace on the different peace tables, with the MILF, the MNLF, the CPP/NPA/NDF, the CPLA and the RPM-P/RPA/ABB.

As we prepare for the Yuletide celebration, let us take the time to remember the lives lost, the families torn, and futures shattered by the disasters, natural or otherwise, that we have had to face. As we remain in solidarity with our sisters and brothers battered by the many calamities that we have endured, let us also remember that it is the season for us to rise again with each other’s help. As families come together all over the country to celebrate the holidays, let us remember that we are also one family, from Mindanao, Visayas, and Luzon: together we cannot be broken, together we are resilient, together we will rise and rise again.

Let us also be reminded that it is the season for children—they who will inherit the earth, they who will continue the legacy of peace that we will leave behind. In this season of giving, let us remember that for children scarred by violence, by poverty, by deprivation—for our children now and for generations yet unborn—there can be no greater gift than the gift of peace; they ask for no more, and they deserve no less.

It is indeed a season for many things: a season to reflect and to rise again; a season of solidarity and of giving. But let us remember that, more than anything, it is a season of hope. And with milestone after milestone that we have achieved in our journey to peace, and with so much left to accomplish on the way forward, we do not only have a season of hope—we have a reason for hope. With faith in each other and in this journey, there is no doubt that we will soon see a new dawn of peace and prosperity all over the country.

So let us be ever thankful, ever faithful, and ever hopeful.

A peaceful and joyous Christmas to everyone!
