LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you…” (Deuteronomy 28:15, the Holy Bible).

BOC’S SMUGGLING CASES A FARCE: To appease President Aquino, Customs Commissioner Angelito Alvarez should try to explain why in many of the smuggling cases his bureau filed against tax evaders to recover some P52 billion in unpaid customs duties and taxes, only minor officials of erring companies had been charged.
While the Bureau of Customs may want to appear serious in its smuggling drive, the truth is that the cases it has filed so far are all a farce, because many of the owners of the erring firms are generally left out and are not being prosecuted.

Alvarez should explain this discrimination. Certainly, the minor officials of companies charged with smuggling could not have acted on their own, without the active participation, or at the very least, knowledge, of the company owners. Why has not Alvarez sued the owners likewise? Something really stinks here and the President knows it.

LAGUNA REP. FERNANDEZ, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? So, okay, Laguna Rep. Dan Fernandez knows that retired and active generals and politicians who own scandalously big fish pens at the Laguna Lake are the real cause of the fish kills in the lake. But what has he done about it? Grin and bear it? Oh well…

WHAT TO DO VS. FISH KILLS: Based on explanations made by the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA), global warming and climate change have also a lot to do with these fish kills in the lake.

LLDA said the fish kills were caused by a sudden change of weather condition from hot to rainy season. When it rains, the surface water temperature goes down but warm water beneath the surface rises. Such a phenomenon heats the fish pens, thereby minimizing oxygen supply and leaving thousands of fish dead, it said.
Does this mean then that there is nothing we can do to prevent more fish kills because nature itself contributes largely to it? My answer is, we can do a lot of things. First, prosecute the generals and the politicians polluting the waters. Second, we need to become more spiritual---reading the Bible more often and obeying God’s commands more sincerely.

FISH KILLS REPRESENT BIBLICAL CURSES: Many will smirk at that suggestion to prevent more fish kills---reading the Bible and obeying God, I mean, on the question that, what can reading the Bible and obeying God’s commands do to solve a problem like fish kills? The truth is that climate change and global warming, which cause fish kills, represent Biblical curses.

“The LORD will strike you… with scorching heat and drought… which will plague you until you perish. The sky over your head will be bronze, the ground beneath you iron…” Deuteronomy 28:22-23 of the Bible says, as a result of refusal to listen to God’s Word (the Bible) and refusal to obey Him (see Deuteronomy 28:15). --Atty.
