LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “However, if you no longer listen to the Lord your God, and no longer obey Him… all of these curses will come upon you and overtake you…” (Deuteronomy 28:15, the Holy Bible).

“MANILA CALL TO ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE” WILL FAIL: I am really sorry to say this but, I cannot help but say it just the same: as usual, nothing important, nothing of value, and nothing of consequence will ever come out of the “Manila Call to Action on Climate Change” which French President Francois Hollande and President Aquino jointly launched in Malacanang on Thursday, 26 February 2015.

This call to action will simply go the way of all previous climate change or global warming initiatives: down the drain, on to the sewers, and then to the murky waters of stagnant canals filled with slimy yet deadly bacteria, unable to stop the march towards environmental degradation and ultimate demise of the whole world.

Why is this going to be so? It is not because of lack of money (for there is plenty of it for conferences, meetings, summits and conventions on the issue), nor because of lack of political will (as we have seen, governments have been mustering enough courage and strength to push for even the most expensive of programs to combat climate change and global warming).

IMPORTANCE OF SPIRITUAL ANGLE IN FIGHT VS. CLIMATE CHANGE: The singular reason why all of these efforts have failed, are failing, and will yet fail in the future, is the inability or perhaps outright refusal of world leaders to recognize the spiritual and Biblical angle of global warming and climate change and the solutions offered by the Bible to successfully reverse their calamitous effects.

As long as this spiritual and Biblical angle is not considered nor taken into account in the fight against environmental degradation, no effort to fight its deadly and destructive effects will ever succeed. All that we need to do to prove this is to look at all past attempts to fight global warming and climate change, and realize that man has found no cure despite the trillions of dollars he already spent in his quest for a solution.

What, then, is this spiritual and Biblical angle of global warming and climate change that must be addressed if we are to succeed in our efforts to fight these environmental evils? It is the fact that the Bible warned all of us that global warming and climate change is going to happen and will kill all of us, unless we do something urgent!

LISTENING TO, AND OBEYING, GOD TO FIGHT GLOBAL WARMING: This warning could be read at Deuteronomy 28:15, 22-24 of the Bible. In a nutshell, these verses say that if man will no longer listen to God, and will no longer obey His commands, God will send His curses to wipe him out, irretrievably and with finality. And one of these curses is the curse of global warming and climate change.

Here is what Deuteronomy 28:22-24 says: “The Lord will strike you with… scorching heat and drought… which will plague you until you perish. The sky over your head will be bronze, the ground beneath you iron. The Lord will turn the rain of your country into dust and powder; it will come down from the skies until you are destroyed.”

Come to think of it, when man is no longer listening to God and is no longer obeying Him, he becomes capable of doing things that harm the environment and nature irreparably, and examples of what he has done to hurt the whole world are just too many to be enumerated one by one. It is therefore important, to fight environmental destruction, to listen to God and to obey Him once more, as the Bible is saying.
