LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees… all these curses will come on you and overtake you… The Lord will strike you with… scorching heat and drought… The sky over your head will be bronze, the ground beneath you iron…” (Deuteronomy 28:15, 22-23, the Holy Bible).

PINOY BUSINESS MOGULS UNITE VS. CALAMITIES: Filipinos certainly have to be grateful to Filipino business moguls Oscar Lopez, Manuel V. Pangilinan and Ernesto Garilao for even considering the holding, as they indeed held, the Earthquake Resilience Conference several days ago, to prepare the Philippines for possible disasters and other contingencies.

While the government of President Aquino is known to be trying to do its share in all these preparations, particularly the much-publicized magnitude 7.2 earthquake that the West and East Valley Faults are said to generate soon, it is totally comforting to note that big businessmen hereabouts are starting to show concern for the welfare of their countrymen.

So, to Mr. Oscar Lopez, Mr. Manuel V. Pangilinan, and Mr. Ernesto Garilao and the other participants of the Earthquake Resiliency Conference, please accept our wholehearted gratitude for your benevolent mission of averting or, at least, minimizing, the damage that earthquakes and other natural calamities may bring real soon.

AN APPEAL TO RICH FILIPINO BUSINESSMEN: Yet, I am making a personal, if urgent, appeal to them and their companies or foundations, the OML Center for Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management, the Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation, and the Zuellig Family Foundation: please include in your preparations the spiritual angle of earthquakes and disasters.

I have already written pretty much about this spiritual angle of calamities and disasters. I am fully convinced that, side by side with all preparations being undertaken right now to mitigate or totally avoid the debilitating effects of these calamities, our people must be taught that the Christian Bible contains prophecies, admonitions, and even solutions to address these problems.

Consequently, I am requesting Mr. Lopez, Mr. Pangilinan, Mr. Garilao, and all other similarly-minded businessmen, to push for Bible studies and prayer sessions among our people, focusing on its chapters and verses that pertain to, or have something to do with, global warming and climate change, destructive rains and floods and strong winds, and, of course, earthquakes.

FIGHT VS. NATURAL CALAMITIES MUST INCLUDE BIBLE STUDIES: Perhaps, these gentlemen can start Bible studies and prayer sessions among their officers and employees, and their other staff, then radiate towards the groups and governmental agencies their companies and foundations are dealing with. Then, using media, studying the Word of God and praying all too often can then be extended to the country at large.

The fact is that, our people must be made to understand that global warming and climate change, as well as destructive rains and floods and strong winds and earthquakes are taught in the Bible to be the direct result of man’s turning away from God, from their refusal to listen (or read) His Word and obey His commands.

People may initially scoff at this connection between man’s disobedience to God and the calamities and disasters that are hounding much of the world now, but, if they are confronted with the reality that much of the occurrences of calamities and disasters were actually predicted with accuracy by the Bible, they may yet see the light and thereby save themselves and the planet Earth.
