LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… For to us a child is born, to us a son is given… And he will be called … Mighty God, Everlasting Father…” (Isaiah 9:6, the Holy Bible).

ISAIAH’S PROPHECIES THAT GOD WILL COME DOWN TO EARTH: The real import of the prophecies that the prophet Isaiah made about God Himself coming to earth in the form of a human being is something that seemed to have escaped many students of the Bible and even many rabid believers, prompting them to misunderstand and consequently refuse to accept the mystery of Jesus as God and Savior.

For those who do not know yet, these prophecies could be found in Isaiah 7 and 9, and they talk about a “baby boy” who will be conceived, and given birth to, by a virgin or a young woman.

Many believers are saying that the “baby boy”, the child of the virgin, would necessarily be a human being too, for, after all, a “baby boy” conceived and given birth to by a human virgin should necessarily be a human baby too, or so the argument goes.

* * * *

THE “BABY BOY” IS NOT HUMAN: But then, Isaiah was definite about who this “baby boy” would really be, emphatically making it clear that the “baby boy” is not going to be a mere human being. This “baby boy” is going to be God Himself, as in fact Isaiah clarified.

This clarification is now contained in the Bible, in its Isaiah 9:6, where Isaiah said that the “baby boy” who was conceived and given birth to by the human virgin would be called “Mighty God, Everlasting Father.” “Mighty God, Everlasting Father”? Indeed, if the “baby boy” was not “Mighty God, Everlasting Father”, Isaiah would have committed the greatest blasphemy of all.

Alongside with this, we must note that preceding Isaiah 9:6 would be Isaiah 9:1-5, which all deal about God’s salvation and redemption of sinners—the gloom afflicting His people being dissipated by honor, for the people walking in darkness have seen a great light, and have been made into an enlarged nation filled with joy, because their oppressive yoke and the club that strikes their shoulders have been shattered.

JESUS IS THE NAME OF GOD: What would all of these mean? It means that the “baby boy” who was to come was no ordinary mortal. He was in fact the “light” that would be referred to later in John 1:1-10, the light that would set the people walking in darkness free from darkness and slavery from sin, the light that gives happiness arising from salvation, the light that is God Himself.

There should therefore be no hesitation in accepting the teaching that it was God Himself who came down from heaven, assumed human form, and lived among us, His creation. As will be shown by further discussions on this matter in this column in the days to come, the God who came to earth in human form has a Name.

That Name is JESUS, as the Bible tells us so. Jesus is the Name of God, as Jesus, our God and Savior Himself attested to, when He prayed to the Father to bless, guide, and protect those whom He will leave behind in this world when He returned to heaven. In that prayer, Jesus said the Name of the Father is the Name that was given to Him.
