LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: `The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’…” (Matthew 1:23, the Holy Bible).

THE BIRTH OF JESUS FULFILLED ISAIAH’S PROPHECY THAT GOD WILL COME TO EARTH: The prophecy made by the prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 7:14 and 9:6 of the Bible—that God Himself will come down from heaven and be on earth to save sinners—found exact fulfillment in the two other announcements of God’s coming to earth which can be read in Matthew 1:18-25 and Luke 1:26-37.

In fact, Isaiah’s prophecy about God’s coming to earth was similarly proclaimed in John 1:1-14 of the Bible, where it was expressly pointed out that God, as the Word, came in the form of man, and lived among His people.

Who was this God who was prophesied to come to earth? In Matthew 1:25 and Luke 1:31, God’s Name was revealed, and it is Jesus. There is therefore no doubt about what the Bible is saying: Jesus is God Himself, the Father in heaven who loved the world so much that He had to fulfill the prophecy about His coming to earth to save those who will believe that He is God and Savior.

VIRGIN BIRTH OF JESUS SHOWS HE IS GOD: Let us read, once again, what Isaiah 7:14 says, from the New International Version of the Bible: “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel…”

Isaiah 9:6, on the other hand, clarifies who is this “son” that the virgin will conceive and give birth to, in this manner: “… For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and he will be called… Mighty God, Everlasting Father…”

Clearly, therefore, the “baby boy” who will be born to the virgin is God Himself.  Then, in order that everyone will understand the connection between Isaiah’s prophecy and Jesus, Matthew 1 (which talks about the birth of Jesus) says, in verse 23: “All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: `The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’…”

NOTHING IS TOO HARD FOR GOD: Can God transform Himself into a human baby boy, and be conceived and then given birth to by a human virgin? Yes, He could do that, because He is a powerful Being who could do everything. This is called the omnipotence of God.

In many verses of the Bible, both in the Old and the New Testaments, God declares that nothing is too hard for Him because He is God. In Genesis 18:14, when Abraham’s 90 or so year old wife, Sarah, doubted whether she and Abraham could still have a baby as God promised, God said, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?”

In Jeremiah 32:26-27, God, through the prophet Jeremiah, said: “Is anything too hard for me?” to confirm the prophecy He gave to Jeremiah that Jerusalem will fall into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon. Finally, in Luke 1:37, Gabriel, the angel who visited the Virgin Mary to tell her she was an instrument in the fulfilment of Isaiah’s prophecy, intoned: “No word from God will ever fail…”
