Table Talk

BY Mike S Apostol

Garbage, thrash, waste or whatever you call it, is all over the city. Almost all of the city streets are strewn with garbage and the garbage trucks of the city and the barangay street cleaners cannot anymore cope with the disorderly disposal of garbage by many city residents. Some residents have still the gall and temerity to blame the garbage collectors for not collecting their garbage which they disposed not following the schedule of “garbage collection”. Unreasonable and senseless residents for pointing the blame of their violation on the garbage collectors. Worse, their garbage are not the ordinary,  even their human waste and dead animals are just thrown on the side streets for the garbage man to collect.  Barangay officials of San Jose Gusu and Campo Islam must order their tanods to advise their residents not to  throw their garbage on side streets and corners and sometimes on the vacant spaces of neighboring Suterville subdivision. The odor and pollution are too much and becomesthe “talk” of visitors. Sometimes we wonder if these residents have toilets in their residences.

Table Talk was a victim of this littering violation. Two weeks ago, the vacant space just beside our driveway in front of the main street of Suterville Subd., Gavilan Pt. or Datu Taupan St., a sonamagan fellow threw heaps of dirty and smelly garbage thereat. The odor was so offensive that we have to close our windows. I can’t stand the obnoxious odor and so I went out that evening and started burning the garbage and almost dawn I stopped, but I was just able to burned halfway. Up to now, I am still burning the leftover garbage every evening.

Similar harrowing incident also happened with a neighbor some three houses away, the vacant space on the side of his residence, an easement from the city street, in front of  two eateries and a bakery, smelly garbage was also dumped thereat. My neighbor shelled out P500 to pay someone to burn it since he has no vehicle to collect the smelly garbage. This is indeed a big problem of decent residents, who beautify their surroundings, plant flowers only to be made a garbage dump by barbarians and barangay officials are not even aware of this problem.

As an investigative reporter, Table Talk searches for information as to who is doing this gross violation of the Anti-Littering Ordinance and a health hazard. Adamantly, a friend who is a “trisicad” driver gave this information. Some residents in Lower Calarian and Campo Islam and Baliwasan Tabuk of San Jose Gusu, pay “trisicad” drivers to as high as P100 per trip to disposed their garbage, like dead animals, human and dog waste, kitchen thrash like fish entrails and so forth, since they don’t have time to dispose them when the garbage truck arrives. Since Campo Islam and San Jose Gusu do not have a garbage dump, this sonamagan and barbarian “trisicad” drivers, dispose those odorous garbage into any vacant space they see in Suterville Subdivision, a few meters from Lower Calarian, Campo Islam and Baliwasan Tabuk. The more trip they can do in an evening the more pay they can have. What is bad is, this “trisicads” fully loaded with garbage are seemingly tolerated by Tanods and policemen in the area because they are never stopped and questioned and allowed to dispose at will their cargo of smelly garbage. There is something suspicious about this whole thing. Perhaps this is the main reason why street gambling of “talang” is rampant in busy street corners of Suterville Subdiivision. Reported house burglary still continues to happen almost every rainy and blackout night.

Another information is that a barangay San Jose Gusu street sweeper from Suterville, a short and tiny guy, the report says, collects garbage in Baliwasan Tabuk and dumps it in any empty space in Suterville. He is too lazy to dump it in their dumping ground. If this information is true, are the officials of Barangay San Jose Gusu aware of this? Barangay Chairman Esteban of San Jose Gusu and number one Kagawad Fernando, please check your men, they might be pulling your legs and giving you false information. Help us with this garbage problem, before  these incidents will go out of hand. Control those “trisicads”. They are unlicensed and illegal especially to collect garbage. Are they licensed for hire as commercial private garbage collectors? Is the barangay authorized to issue licenses and permits for garbage collection? Check on this before the situation becomes uncontrollable. Today is fruit season and fruit peelings will be thrown everywhere even in the middle of the streets by car riding barbarians.

Scoop: Barangay Chairmen of Campo Islam and San Jose Gusu, check the existence of these “trisicads”. Some of them are a “pain in the ass” and we might take the law into our hands, if this will not be controlled. This is abuse against law abiding citizens and please don’t disagree.
