All’s well that ends well. Zamboanga City booth was one of the favorite booths during the recently concluded Philippine Travel Mart 2015. The event is the biggest tourism exhibit held annually in the country, where LGUs, travel agencies and other tourism stakeholders converge — not to forget local and international tour buyers.

We had the opportunity to meet our counterparts from different cities as well as tour operators. Discussions focused  on how we can interconnect from among the cities and provinces especially in mindanao to arrive at a very good tour itinerary.

It was a great pleasure to meet my counterparts from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao or ARMM. I was so amazed to see how enthusiastic they were to promote their respective places referring to Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi (BASULTA ) archipelago. What’s more interesting to note is they recognized the fact the our beloved city is the jump off point for their tourists or visitors prior to reaching their respective places.

I met my former colleague in the Dept of Health Regional Office IX, formerly working as a nurse in Tipo-Tipo  ,now Assistant Secretary for Tourism in ARMM  the lovely Maria Teresa Sakalahul. while she was a community nurse, I was the regional Public Information Officer of DOH IX and the spokesperson of former regional Director and USEC our very own Dr. Mila “Bulilang” Fernandez . We’ve exchanged tourism  notes and it was fun and very inspiring.

On the part of our travel tour operators in Manila, some are expected to visit the city this October to experience personally how the festival is being conducted and celebrated. They will also avail of the different tour menus we offer, to be able to draw up their strategies to sell Zamboanga City Tour Packages.

Other travel agencies also based in Manila and other parts of the country requested for  accommodation contracted rates. while we brought in flyers from our different local accommodation operators,  still there is that need for me to hook them up to arrive at a better deal, both for our accommodation operators and the concerned tour operators.

It was a very fruitful experience on our part having been on the ground to experience the whole event itself and having met with different tourism stakeholders. We will not stop here, we will continue our tourism marketing and promotion efforts for our beloved Zamboanga City with the blessing and support of our leaders in the local government. —  Email your suggestions /comments at sebastian.sarita@gmail.com
