Table Talk

BY Mike S Apostol

Last Saturday, September 12, was the 5—th birthday of former Congressman of District 2 Erico Basilio Apolinario Fabian (Erbie to friends). It coincided with the opening of his newly completed wholesome family resort in Barangay Mercedes. The resort named “Goldie and Stephanie”, (don’t ask me who are these two ladies, I don’t ask personal questions), is complete with two swimming pools, one for adults and a smaller one for children. It is spacious with a convention hall, picnic huts and a convenient store for picnickers and a wide parking space. The picnic ground is covered with manicured carabao grass and concrete pathways to go around the resort. When you are there, the ambiance is like, you are at home in your lawn. Erbie and wife Dinggay, were gracious host. They made everybody happy last Saturday.  The food was excellent and beer and whiskey flowed. It is now open for business. Last Sunday, the first group to book for their family day was the Mason brotherhood of Zamboanga City. The wholesome family resort is an excellent place for birthdays, weddings and Christmas parties. Some groups already booked in advance for their Christmas party in December and one of them is Medika a distributing company of Lope Iringan. It is open everyday.

The affair was attended by many friends and relatives of Erbie Fabian. His former congressional staff in Zamboanga City  were there. We saw District 2 Congress Representative Lilia Nuno with husband former city councilor Aman Nuno and daughter Hanah. Also in attendance was General Salazar, husband of City Mayor Beng Climaco-Salazar and later Congressman Celso L. Lobregat of District 1. In attendance too were his personal friends and classmates at Ateneo de Zamboanga. Also E-Media outfit owner and manager Rey Bayoging and his TV Staff and RMN commentator Bhong Simbahon and many more. It was a gathering of honorable brethren and other friendly forces.

Table Talk was in the company of special friends, enjoying “lechon baca” and “lamb specialties” to go with our San Miguel Light and Pale Pilsen  beer and Johnny Walker black label. We were enjoying the night talking politics, business and other topics. I was in the company of beer and whiskey drinkers for the duration of the party like Lope Iringan, Alan Villanueva, Junie Eustaquio, who just arrived from the States, Drigo Balbon, ex and future city councilor Ller Enriquez, retired marine Col. Chiong, retired Navy Capt. Manoling Enriquez, a  PMAer, classmate of former Southcom Chief Gen. Espinosa and former Vice-Mayor Manny Dalipe, also from America and businessman Eddie Catis, Jangol Chiong, Bing-Bong Ledesma and brother Nene Ledesma, Faizal Hasiman, Dr. Bonjing Feliciano, Alejo and Totie Marquez and Fernandito Fernandez. And also Joseph Dy of Carlos Grill and Roger Tan of Yubengco  Mall.  We enjoyed the night and consumed several buckets of beer and downed one liter of whickey. For the first time I saw Lope Iringan drink whiskey instead of  beer. Hanazono Boys and Junction habitues were all their in our picnic hut, but we missed Charlie Reith and Jerome Lao.

The brand new family resort of Erbie and Dinggay Fabian is a new addition to the city’s progress. The East Coast is a promising commercial expansion for the city of Zamboanga. The wide land space of Barangay Mercedes specially those lots along the MCLL Highway will be the next commercial center of Zamboanga similar to Ayala Avenue in Makati City. When the proposed international airport will be built somewhere in Talabaan, the East Coast will boom commercially. Right now several big companies are already in the area like Toyota Motors and Citti Hardware. It won’t take many years when big national malls and international hotels will rise up at the East Coast, because it is a gateway to other cities of Mindanao like Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Iligan and General Santos cities and to the agricultural ventures of Bukidnon and Central Mindanao.

Scoop: When the Koronadal Commercial Center (KCC) will open, the commercial center  at Guardia Nacional or the Cesar C. Climaco Avenue will be decongested with traffic of people and vehicles because the destination will be the KCC that offers almost everything that people need from textiles to groceries to meat products and at a low price we were informed. KCC is said to produce its own beef, pork, poultry products and vegetables in their wide farm and ranch in  Central Mindanao and General Santos City. Perhaps this is a blessing for Zamboanga City to break the commercial monopoly of the Koreans and mainland Chinese who are now doing a lucrative business in Zamboanga City. Agree or Disagree, this is true, we had a casual conversation with one of the owners of KCC owners. Watch for the opening of KCC.
