I listen to my favorite songs everytime I write my column. For today’s issue, Kenny Loggins kept me company with his songs most especially with IM GONNA MISS YOU. This song  reminds me of my college years having a good tiome at Xanadu. Not everybody knows where that place is, it was kind of an exclusive place merely for friends, where yuppies ( at that time) converge. Cold booze, yummy food, cool music, darts and pool were all available. Life was so good and simple then as we have  dealt with REAL PEOPLE not daw si OROCAN de Zamboanga...Lovely..!

Today, some farmers will converge at La Viña Hotel to attend the Farm Tourism Forum organized by the City Government through the City Agriculture Office, City Tourism Office and the Dept of Agriculture.

The event is an offshoot of the series of conferences attended by both local offices on Farm Tourism Matter. No less than the National Government is pushing for the local government units in the country to develop and promote Farm Tourism in their respective places.

In Zamboanga City, we have identified the NJB Farm in Ayala as our model for our Farm Tourism Program. Luckily, Mr. Bernardo is very suppportive of our initiative to develop such, this in a way will add up in our local tour menu. Also, it will serve as an inspiration to other farmers.

Thus during the forum, we shall present the local government plans and programs relative to the matter. Councilors Mike alavar and VP Elago will speak with regard to legislations while DOT IX will present the overview on Farm Tourism. I understand my former boss, Director MaryJune Bugante cannot make it as she is out of town, but I’m sure she will send her representative. Mr. Diosdado Palacat, our city agriculture czar, will speak regarding  his office’s plans and programs,  while this writer will deal on the farm tourism angle.

Oh yeah, in the afternoon, we shall conduct the soft launching of the  the Farm Tour at NJB Farms. The invited participants will get the feel on how we package the farm for possible tour. This is part of our tourism product development as far as local setting is concerned, Oh di ba Reng! I’m looking forward to  enjoy the serenity in the said farm with fresh cow’s milk or fresh mango shake. See you there baby!
