Sound Snipings

BY Jimmy Cabato

Greetings. Just came from Sunday Mass and it’s a little past 9:30 in the morning. This time it’s definite, this piece today will be brief. It’s the fiesta of Baliwasan in honor still of Patroness St. Our Lady of the Pillar. And for the 3rd year in a row it will be an open house of the Cabato family at the Open Court of the Baliwasan Central Elementary School.

In view thereof, in support of Barangay Captain-son Jaime “Boday”, this corner will have to be by his side to welcome and entertain visitors. Aside from some humble food preparations, there will be fun games with prizes galore and a playing band for entertainment.

Open House as it is, anybody who treks in will be served and enteratined.

Last night, the finale of the 9th Bonggahan na Baliwasan was an affair to remember. The area was jam-packed with spectators.

believe it or not, it also turned as an open field. Even as Boday is running for councilor under Cong. Celso Lobregat, Baliwasan welcomed on stage, Lobregat rival Monsi dela Cruz.

In his company were council aspirants from two political groupings. Running independent with Monsi,  it was Elking Omaga, barangay captain of Calarian. From the LP Climaco faction, there were Councilor Pinpin Pareja, Kawit Barangay Captain Rey Modillas and former housing head Drigo Pagotaisodro.

They appeared on stage in unison, with one and the other given the chance to address the big crowd.

Open field is what it truly was. The night before, Cong. Celso Lobregat and his LP-NP faction together with Noning Biel were there. As far as I remember, the council aspirants present were Rudy Lim, former Campo Islam Barangay Captain.

Of course, Jaime Boday was with them, and even pinch-hit as the emcee at the time.

And this is exactly what I uttered a little later on stage, “All is fair in love and war.”, then thanking the crowd, visitors, performers and benefactors. Special mention, as well was made of God, who gave Baliwasan fair weather all throughout the shows, in spite of the earlier rains of typhoon Lando that whipped its tail the last only a day before, with very slight showers in the early morning of the shows start..
