TODAY’S MANNA

BY Berlie G. Yap

As they say, it is life’s normalcy if you go through pains; short of saying that one’s life ain’t normal if he doesn’t experience personal hardships. Are you presently going through heartaches, or did anybody bruise your emotions in the past? Hope, this simple article may bless and help you to get a step ahead. “Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: FORGETTING WHAT LIES BEHIND AND STRAINING FORWARD TO WHAT LIES AHEAD.” (Phil. 3:13, ESV)

In the above passage, St. Paul penned and seemed to say a particular wisdom—that “when we love others and did give even our lives to them, but instead they repay us evil—by maligning us, we got no other choice but to move on and forget the past.” Such is the simplest and easiest way to overcome life’s pains, than choosing to be bitter.

You can’t live forever in pains. It’s just alright to be hurt, but the next things ahead are our choices to make. One can choose to be free by his personal responses to his present situations, and the same shall determine his future, too. After all, it is not the outside forces, of our lives, which can either break or make our souls, it is our own choices as the product of our personal responses to any given situation.

God didn’t create us with strings to be puppets. He soaked inside our souls a will. Through that “will”, we can allow the hand of God to permeate healing inside our hearts. There are no enough pains which had existed or will exist that do have the capacity to dampen our spirits! Well, except if we allow them to limp us. Again, the determining factor is not the outside forces but us—it is our will to choose which!

God has a better plan for our lives, even far better than our personal dreams. The Lord said in 1 Cor. 2:19, NIV, “However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’–the things God has prepared for those who love him.” Ain’t that nice?

Albeit, our sight is short, because we can’t see the future, such realm only belongs to the Creator. Thus, it pays to listen to His guidance. God cannot commit mistakes. His Word is infallible and inerrant. He gave us the Bible as our manual to live daily. Wisdom is in that book. Once you read it, it will become a well-spring of life to you, that if you will hunger for Him.

Each of us deserves to be happy. Don’t live in the pains of yesterday. Here’s a fact, we cannot redo our past, but we can repair the destruction it caused, today. What matters is not the ugliness of your yesterday, but the potential beauty of today. Remember, the sky is blue, roses are red, honey is sweet, music is soothing, education is free, opportunities are endless, and etc. All of these are for us, and they are at our reach. That if we decide to embrace for the healing, and be willing to let go of the sting of yesterday.

Joseph is one of the best characters in the Old Testament. He was the eleventh son of Jacob. He was the favorite of his Dad. However, due to the jealousy and envy of his other siblings, he was sold by the latter to slavery. It hurts more, when those closer to you are the ones who will inflict you the unnecessary harm. In the case of the young Joseph, it was his 10 elder brothers.

But his life’s story didn’t end up to there—in pains. God gave him the chance to be blessed. In a foreign land, to where he was a stranger, the almighty gave him the unexpected breaks. He had the gift to interpret dreams. One day, he was able to solve the enigma of Pharaoh, which troubled him beyond measure. In gratitude, the monarch promoted him to be his counselor and he was appointed as the Prime Minister of the old Egypt.

After all of those hurts, the young man then decided to let go of his past. “Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh. ‘For,’ he said, ‘God has made me forget all my hardship and all my father’s house.’” (Gen. 41:51, ESV) Letting go of your past hurts is the very key. Quite simple and easy! We can appropriate it by personally choosing it! Indeed, such is a matter of choice.

Gotta move on, and go forward! The future belongs to you, start building it today. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the PRESENT. The present is a gift from the almighty, given to all of us, at our own disposal to prepare our tomorrow. He gave it raw though, for us to exploit. It is like an open canvass, where we can paint our own and personal story we wanted to happen.

God always reserves you the better one. Hence, if, by pain, you lose something, it is safe to presume that such was not for you. Your choice is to let it go, because God is in-storing you a better one. “The Lord said to Samuel, ‘How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.’” (1 Sam. 16:1, ESV)

Henry Sy had a corporate executive. One day, because of some disagreement, the former fired the latter. The said executive was affected for awhile, but soon also decided to start his own company, applying the same skills he acquired from his former employment. In no time, said busted executed made also real in our country’s history. The man is Lucio Tan.

Lastly, God designed you to love and not to hate. Remember, light cannot be darkness. Hate is actually a poison which if one yields to it such will change him to become a BITTER person. Child of God, the Father wants you to be the happiest! Don’t allow any wrong things in the world today, or yesterday, to rob you of your personal joy, walk forgiving and walk forgetting—forgetting the past! God bless you.
