My friend had  received a lot of depressing news in one week.  It was sent to her through e-mails, notices in envelopes, telephone calls and others.

One time, she  again received an envelope and she could not take it anymore.  So she did not open the envelope, to postpone whatever bad news it brought.

When she finally decided to open it, lo and behold! It was a check  amounting to 700 US dollars!  Imagine that! All these times she has been suffering, feeling defeated when  there was just something very wonderful waiting for her the other time yet, had she been brave to face her worries.

Another one also was the husband of my cousin.  He was jobless for quite some time and he developed a fear of applying, because of the series of rejections he experienced.

Then someone told him that a certain plastic factory needed some workers which did not require a college degree.  My cousin-in-law, who was one subject short of a college degree, hesitantly considered the prospect and dreaded the day he would  apply and come face to face with the employer.

When the “dreaded” day came, he was very surprised to be hired as a supervisor! Can you imagine what happy news he brought home that night?

We can never tell the circumstances which await us at the bend of the road.  We maybe very down, but we never know what happy surprises are on our way.

Once, there was an opening for a scholarship in Australia.  I was not cited by my administrator because the slot was already full.  When someone backed-out, I volunteered to apply.

When I was preparing my papers, I was very downcast to think that I was just the one pushing myself and nobody was interested in taking me.  And as I was walking, I thought, “ Perhaps my feeling is the opposite of what will happen.  Maybe, I will just laugh at this time and wonder why I felt so ambitious and undeserving”.

So I felt a little better.  Then when the results came, I was the one chosen by the panel for that very prestigious grant!

There’s no harm in trying. That’s why, let us “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”Deuteronomy 31:6
