If only she had her way, Mayor Beng Climaco and the City Council would have wanted Sr. Supt. Angelito Casimiro to stay in Zamboanga as city police director.

However, Climaco stressed that because of the traditional career movement in the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the two-year policy, she cannot help but support the impending relief of Supt. Casimiro effective Jan 28.

“We even have recommended allowing Col. Casimiro to take on higher post in the PNP. We support his movement out of the city because no less than the PNP chief has responded to the City Council resolution requesting for Col. Casimiro’s extension of service in Zamboanga,” the mayor told Monday’s press briefing.

According to her, the PNP chief Director Ricardo Marquez in response to the City Council’s resolution had insisted on the two-year policy, limiting police officials’ assignment to only two years.

“We follow the rule of two years. So we are supportive of whatever career move that Col. Casimiro may take and for him also to serve the PNP in another higher capacity or in other areas as well,” Climaco added.— Vic Larato
