LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves…” (Romans 13:1-2, the Holy Bible).

HOW WILL BINAY HEAL DIVISIVENESS? Will Vice President Jejomar C. Binay please tell us what, exactly, did he mean when he said he will heal divisiveness in the country if and when he becomes President after the May 2016 elections? Did he mean to say that he will simply forgive and forget the crimes that have been committed against the Filipino people, particularly by the Aquino government?

Surely, if the Commission on Audit is to be believed, there are large scale graft committed by many top honchos under President Aquino, involving billions and billions of pesos of government funds. Are we just going to forgive these grafters for the sake of healing?

Then again, even the Supreme Court is saying that the authors, proponents, and implementors of the plunderous disbursement acceleration program (DAP) which saw the giving away of hundreds of billions of taxpayers’ money should be investigated and prosecuted. Did Binay mean, to heal divisiveness, that we will simply have to close our eyes to all of these stealing of government funds just so we can be united?

WHO MUST REGISTER MARRIAGE CONTRACTS: Who has the duty of forwarding the marriage contract of recently-married parties to the Local Civil Registrar so that the contract can be duly registered—the new husband and wife, or their sponsors, or the person who solemnized their marriage? According to Art. 23 of the Family Code of the Philippines, this duty devolves upon the person who solemnized the marriage.

Art. 23 says: “It shall be the duty of the person solemnizing the marriage to furnish either of the contracting parties the original of the marriage certificate and to send the duplicate and triplicate copies of the certificate not later than fifteen days after the marriage, to the local civil registrar of the place where the marriage was solemnized.

“Proper receipts shall be issued by the local civil registrar to the solemnizing officer transmitting copies of the marriage certificate. The solemnizing officer shall retain in his file the quadruplicate copy of the marriage certificate, the copy of the marriage certificate, the original of the marriage license and, in proper cases, the affidavit of the contracting party regarding the solemnization of the marriage…”

EDSA 1 &2: THE WORK OF GOD’S ENEMIES: If we are to appreciate carefully what Romans 13:1-2, Titus 3:1-2, 1 Peter 2:13, and Hebrews 13:17 of the Bible are saying, it would be clear to all that the occurrence of the EDSA People Power Revolutions in 1986 and in 2001 was anti-Biblical or, better yet, was totally against what God has mandated in His Holy Book.

Those four Biblical verses are telling us that we should not be rising up, or fighting against, government authorities and that, even when they are already abusive and corrupt, God wants us to still submit ourselves to the erring authorities and  then earnestly pray for their change. We are not, if we are truly followers of Jesus, to fight against our officials, for to do so would bring us curses.

This perhaps explains why even after 30 years of EDSA in 1986, Filipinos and the Philippines continue to wallow in poverty and deep economic deprivation, and that the curses promised by the Bible to those who will not listen to, and will not obey, God’s commands. Maybe, Filipinos should now endeavor to read more of the Bible and see that EDSA was, in reality, the work of God’s enemies.
