LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… `Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light’…” (Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, in Matthew 11:28, the Holy Bible).

BORN AGAIN CHURCHES REJECT TOP CANDIDATES: Here is something from a group of Christian pastors who are monitoring the candidacy of one of their kind in the 2016 elections: together with a big church where the candidate-pastor is affiliated, all Christian Born Again churches in the Philippines will not be voting for the top candidates of the party that appear to have jilted the candidate-pastor even if he belongs to that party likewise.

In a regular weekly meeting of the pastors, some kind of a resolution was firmed up, expressing dismay that the candidate-pastor was literally snubbed by the top candidates of the party in question because his name was never mentioned at all in a big rally of the party very recently. It took the titular head of the party to mention the candidate-pastor and vouch for his qualifications.

So, where are the top candidates of this party going to derive their support—and their votes—come election time? I mean, I am aware that these top candidates have also alienated some other big church groups by their high-handed and rather foul techniques of compelling those churches to support them in the past. Are they acting like this because, no matter what, their victory has already been assured by computer experts?

CORRECTING ERRONEOUS FIRST NAMES: Baby Girl Sta. Maria has been using as her first name “Baby Girl” ever since she can remember. Very recently, however, she discovered that her certificate of live birth carries as her first name “Melody”. She is asking what she should do to legalize her use of “Baby Girl” as her real first name, and so that the name “Melody” in her birth certificate could be changed to “Baby Girl”.

The remedy is to file a petition for a change of first name with the Local Civil Registrar of the place where she was born, under Republic Act 9048, or the Clerical Error Law. Under this law, when there is a mistake in the first name recorded in the birth certificate of any person, that could be corrected through an administrative proceeding with the Registrar’s office.

The person need not go to court anymore to effect this change of first name. He or she also no longer needs a lawyer to do this, because there is a ready-made, fill-in-the-blanks form at the city or municipal hall that could be easily accomplished. Then, the fee for this is only about P5,000.00—P1,500.00 will be for the filing fee, and P3,500.00 for the publication of the amendments sought to be made.

PEACE IN OUR TROUBLED HEARTS: IS IT POSSIBLE? Busted by the rigors of daily living? Bothered and bewildered by people and events who are beyond our control or persuasion? We should not despair, nor fear, nor be afraid. The remedy is, we must endeavor to have peace in our hearts, minds, and in our souls and spirit. The heart, mind, soul and spirit that are at peace give birth to a body that is both sound and healthy.

So, how can we achieve peace in our hearts, minds, and in our souls and spirit? If you believe in Jesus as your God and Savior, let us obey what He is saying, under John 14 of the Bible. He said: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

In Matthew 6, Jesus also told us not to worry about the food and drinks we will have to eat and drink. He also forbid us to worry about anything, including what is to happen on the day after today, or tomorrow. In fact, we were admonished not to be anxious about anything. What then we should to receive the peace of Jesus? Accept Him as God and Savior, and then listen to, and obey, His Word. It is that simple, really!
