LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… All these curses will come on you. They will pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you did not obey the Lord your God and observe the commands and decrees he gave you…” (Deuteronomy 28:45, the Holy Bible).

THE UNEXPLORED OPTION ON THE WEST PHILIPPINE SEA: So, okay, the Philippines is now doing all it can via the diplomatic, judicial, and political channels to fight off China’s invasion and occupation of the Philippine-owned West Philippine Sea. Sad to say, however, all these efforts are unsuccessful, for there is one important aspect of the problem that the government appears unwilling to venture into.

Eyebrows maybe raised and mocking smiles maybe thrown my way for my saying this but, as long as the Philippines and its leaders refuse to recognize the fact that the Chinese invasion is as much an event that involves spirituality and was in fact something that was prophesied by the Bible to happen, there is no stopping China’s incursion into and usurpation of our territory.

It would therefore be a significant step towards prudence and enlightenment to start looking at the West Philippine Sea/South China Sea situation from the point of view of the Bible, side by side with the present approaches we already have undertaken with the rest of the world. Nothing is going to be lost anyway if we attempt to determine what God is saying on this issue.

THE PROPHECY OF INVASION BY A FOREIGN POWER: Let us start by realizing that there is a Biblical prophecy in its Book of Curses which says that a people who no longer listen to God and who no longer obey His commands would be visited with terrible curses, and that one of them clearly points to the curse of a ruthless and voracious invader from another country.

Here is how this prophecy is worded: “The Lord will bring a nation against you from far away, from the ends of the earth, like an eagle swooping down, a nation whose language you will not understand. a fierce-looking nation without respect for the old or pity for the young.

“They will devour the young of your livestock and the crops of your land until you are destroyed. They will leave you no grain, new wine or olive oil, nor any calves of your herds or lambs of your flocks until you are ruined.

“They will lay siege to all the cities throughout your land until the high fortified walls in which you trust fall down. They will besiege all the cities throughout the land the Lord your God is giving you…”

IT MAYBE WELL TO CONSIDER GOD’S POINT OF VIEW: Why is this particular curse going to happen? The Biblical reason is simple, and let me quote it likewise: “However, if you no longer listen to the Lord your God and no longer  carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you…”

From where I sit, this particular curse is now happening. Some may retort that the invasion is occuring because it is desired by China, for its own economic purposes. And they are correct. But who puts in the heart of China’s leaders the desire to do what they are now doing? God, of course. Perhaps, our own Filipino leaders may want to consider this point of view next time!
