Table Talk

BY Mike S Apostol

2016 is an era of hate speeches, no doubt about it. Recently, President S.B. Aquino III’s  Edsa 1 celebration speech was loaded with “hate” against the Marcoses, blaming them for the present woes and miseries of the Filipino. Instead of conciliatory remarks, as the President is almost to bid farewell the Presidency, His Excellency opted to open the wounds that happened 30 years ago and wanted to get even with the Marcoses, that had long forgotten and forgiven by the Marcoses against their father’s tormentors for the former Martial Law president’s mistakes.

Liberal Party standard bearer, Mar Roxas, continues to hate his rivals, that he continues to reveal to the public without let up, mayor Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte’s drug busting adventure and Vice President Jejomar Binay’s corruption charges. Mar Roxas went even beyond by contradicting that Davao City is not-drug free but still a supply center of illegal drugs in the country to include Makati City, VP Binay’s bailiwick.

World boxing icon and Congressman Manny Pacquiao, vying for Senator, who is now a deeply religious layman, hates the gays and lesbians in the country so much sothat their same sex marriage, he said,  is against the Law of God and quoting the Bible in justifying his public statements as part of his religious freedom. A strong hatred from the gays and lesbian community in the country poured against Cong. Manny Pacquiao’s  statement, that they are now campaigning against his senatorial candidacy and directly tells the Filipinos “not to vote Manny Pacquiao for senator” branding him as a “bigot and hypocrite”

Senator Antonio Trillianes who is running for Vice-President continues to haunt the Binay’s of Makati. Making his hatred for the Binays his personal war against corruption, exposing publicly overpricing by the millions of pesos in Makati City’s Binay’s   infrastructure projects. The hate campaign of Sen. Trillianes against the Binay family was not set aside, and the Binay’s met the expose’ of Senator Trillianes, also with hate, and left no stone unturn to get even by being able to retaliate with a Libel case against Senator Trillianes and ultimately the court of Makati City issued a warrant of arrest  against the senator and posted  a bail bond of 30,000 pesos for his temporary freedom. It is a classic case of “hate versus hate”.

Elsewhere, messages of hate, sarcasm, threats and curses are flooding the Facebook. Except for a few of love and religious quotes coming from well meaning Facebook users. But the abusers of the “privilege communication” theory, is a daily “downer” to our happy lives. This is hate in the making and defeats the purpose of a cyberspace communication.

You may hate Table Talk for this, here, in Zamboanga City, our deeply religious Mayor Maria Isabelle “Beng” Climaco, who hates so much MNLF founder Nur Misuari for the atrocities, destruction and death they have caused in the city last year, publicly announced “not to vote for Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte for President” who is a known friend of the MNLF and Nur Misuari. We cannot blame the Mayor for the pain and misery inflicted by  the MNLF in the city and the whole peaceful residents of the city hate the MNLF. But, many believe that Duterte’s acquaintance with Nur Misauari is consequential and a common belief in Federalism, but absolutely not “ideology”. It could have been better for the Mayor to let the voters of the city have a free hand to choose their President, besides Zamboanga City’s number of votes is not enough to make a President.

Scoop: The “Magdalo” group of Senator Trillianes, who are not all for him and the “Ram Boys” of Senator Gringo Honasan are not against each other, even if Sen. Trillianes and Sen. Honasan are both vying for Vice President. Some of them say from the “Magdalo” side that Sen. Trillianes run for VP to block Sen. Honasan’s support and vice versa. Table Talk hopes that hatred is not brewing with the two groups. Besides honestly majority of both groups are for Senator Bong-Bong Marcos. This is something new in the military especially the military retirees. We foresee peace in the country after the election even without the Bangsa Moro Basic Law (BBL) because of new leaders in the country. This time you may disagree with my opinion and it is alright with Table Talk. All the country and the family need is peace.
