C H I N I T A

BY Sarita Sebastian

Thank God for the peaceful conduct of the different events in the city (in celebration of the Dia de Zamboanga Festival 2016 and the Birds Festival 2016 ) and for our visitors too. It is always good note we have  out of town personalities visiting our city. Of course with the election fever, politicians will come and go in MI CIUDAD DE ZAMBOANGA!

Oh yeah, it has been our tradition to celebrate DIA DE ZAMBOANGA as we commemorate the charter anniversary  of our City with Nicasio Valderrosa

( Grand Daddy of Sis Myra Paz V. Abubakar ) as the first City Mayor.

I see it very important, most especially for young people, to know by heart the history of their city. This in a way will truly make them appreciate and love their city MORE ,which in effect ,will inspire them to contribute for the good of Zamboanga and be a responsible constituent.

I remember the first time I visited USA back in ’97 as GSE Scholar of Rotary International. I was amazed how knowledgeable and proud pre-school kids talk about the history of their City. It happened in one of my cultural immersion sessions where I got to deal with people of different ages.

I saw and felt their love for their place.Young at that, they’ve managed to talk about their personal dreams and what they intend to do for their place. They proudly talked about their leaders stressing the latters’ accomplishments which benefitted them all.

Unlike in our country or even in our city to be specific, even kids tend to notice the shenanigans of some of our elected leaders. They even call them names, which I get a shock of my life most of the time. It is a very unfortunate situation, but such reality truly exists.

I am not a pessimist. I TRY to be an optimist ,because I know things can still be improved , and this will only happen if we choose the right leaders come election this May. Our city has the potential to be more developed, if only we have the right people in the government. No one else can make things happen except the people.

Never SELL your SOUL to THEATRICAL  and MARU politicians ,because if you do that ,then it will be the end of Story. Que Lastima Ding! — Email me at sebastian.sarita@gmail.com
