LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.  And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up…” (James 5:14-15, the Holy Bible).

THE FIRST THING TO DO IN CASE OF GRAVE ILLNESS: If your father is 83 years old, and is a victim of two strokes in a span of three years more or less (2011 to 2013) which has made him absolutely bedridden for the last three years (2013 to 2016), has diabetes, an irregular heartbeat, and with a host of other medical issues, would you consent to have him operated on for gall stones and a sludge of accumulated puss in his gall bladder?

The problem here is even compounded by a general assessment that considering his age and physical condition, an operation maybe too great a risk. On the other hand, considering the confirmed finding, through CT scan, that his gall bladder and the areas surrounding it are already getting sorely infected and may cause sepsis, the risk is equally foreboding if no operation is carried out.

What would be the first thing you would do in this kind of a dire situation? The best thing of course, which is to consult with, and pray urgently to, the Greatest Doctor and Healer of all, and this description comes with capital letters at the beginning of each word since, you may have guessed correctly by now, I am referring to Jesus, our God and Savior.

GOD WILL SUSTAIN THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN HIM: That was the unenviable dilemma we faced last week. Because of the negative assessment of my father’s condition, it was very difficult allowing the operation. But God has shown the way all throughout for all of us, more particularly for my father’s doctors. They referred us to a very young surgeon (he is only 45 years old), who strongly pushed for operating on my father after looking at his medical records.

And by the grace of God, the operation was carried out on Wednesday, March 09, 2016. Now, again by the grace of God working through the doctors, the gall stones and the sludge had been flushed out, including the unwanted liquids in his lungs and other internal parts that have earlier been causing his health to deteriorate.

The crisis is not over yet, of course, since it will take forty-eight hours for him to recuperate, according to his doctors, but we are once more forever thankful to Jesus, our God and Savior, for being there all the time that my father and our entire family needed Him, providing him with the needed sustenance, strength and fortification, to withstand the operation.

ARE YOU WITH GRAVE ILLNESS? TRY JESUS! The moral of the story of my father is that, I am sure Jesus would be there, too, for anyone who will call on Him, for He so loved the world He Himself came down from heaven in human form, so that whoever believes in Him will not perish but will have eternal life.

Indeed, the first line of defense against illness is Jesus as God and Savior. In His Bible, we are told that we should always remember Him in whatever we eat or drink, and ask always that the food and drink we will partake will be transformed into His body and blood, because if we make that request, He will come and be united in our own bodies and blood.

Then, when any illness is already upon our bodies, we are told to pray and rebuke the illness and ask for healing in the mighty Name of Jesus. We are also told to call our church leaders, who will pray over us, and anoint us with oil in the Name of Jesus, so that the sick will get well and be brought up from the bed of sickness. Indeed, if we only obey these commands from Jesus and from His Book, His love and power will overcome all of us!
