Summer vacation in almost all schools in the city and has just started this week. But, how true is the information that students will be back to  school in August of this year instead of the usual school opening in June? This summer vacation of school year 2016 will be the longest vacation so far, if true, five months from  June to August 2016. Perhaps the Department of Education (DepEd) will now fully implement the K to 12 educational system for the Philippines. This is a well studied and researched educational system by DepEd for the Philippines school graduates to be at par with foreign graduates. If this K to 12 will be fully implemented our standard of education will be raised as that in America and Europe.

Right now without the K to 12 educational system, our college graduates find a hard time in landing a job abroad commensurate to their courses. Masteral and Doctorate graduates from the Philippines are not recognized and accepted abroad unless they graduate from American and European universities. In America there is a difference between possessing “a diploma” and “a graduate”. Our college graduates in the Philippines right now are just considered “a diploma” in America, because to be called a graduate will take a longer number of years in schooling and accomplished requirements. The aim of DepEd in adopting a K to 12 system in our school curriculum so our school standards will be “international.”

Many parents of students complain that with the K to 12 system, it means longer years in school, hence additional expenses. But a K to 2 system, will raise the level of a high school graduate to a level of an associate graduate in college, because of the additional number of years in high school. Therefore, a high school graduate in a K to 12 system can now land a job even in a government institution and if a high school graduate chooses to pursue a college course and graduates, they can now handle high positions in government civil service after passing the requirement of eligibility. the rights and privileges and advantages of a K to 12 graduate far outweighs the disadvantages of additional school expenses.

Aside from the advantages and standards, the school months in a K to 12 system in the Philippines, also included the study of months conducive to studying. The planners of K to 12 studied the patterns of our wet season and dry season. In a K to 12 system,  students are in school only during the dry season to conveniently attend classes. Vacations are timed during the wet season, so when the rains and floods come, students are safe in their homes. This will also prohibit accidents and sickness during classes.

Government should limit and control school tuition fees increases in private schools especially those exclusive private schools so school expenses of parents whose children are enrolled in private schools will not be hard pressed. Government schools should also be strict in implementing the standards of K to 12 system so the quality of learning in a government school can be preserved or improved.

My grandson is now in Grade 8 before K to 12, he should be second year by now and in 2 years be in fourth year and graduates in  high school. Now we have to wait until he will be Grade 12 and graduate in high school. You are like a second year college if you graduate high school in a K to 12 system.  Remember, more years in school more knowledgeable you become.

Scoop: Is it true that allegedly, some school administration here tolerate,  “palakasan” “pabor con pabor” or “ amor con amor se paga” system?. If a parent contributes more or they give more gifts to a teacher or their student will do anything the teacher will request, their son or daughter is sure to be an “Honor Student”? Que Barbaridad if true. This is corruption and abuse of confidence and authority or maybe exploitation. The highest form of “social crime” like a “one eyed is the king in the kingdom of the blind”. agree or disagree.
