LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “My son, do not forget my teaching, but keeP commands in your heart, For they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity…” (Proverbs 3:1-2, the Holy Bible).

CURRENT EVENTS IN THE WORLD AS SIGNS: The signs are clear: earthquakes, hunger and famine, wars and rumors of war between nation against nation and kingdom against kingdom, people claiming they are Jesus or the Christ, believers being put to death because of their belief in Jesus, many are leaving the faith and are betraying and hating one another.

Many false prophets have also arisen, wickedness is increasing by the day, love has grown cold. The only signs that have not happened yet are the sun being darkened,  the moon not giving its light, stars falling from the sky hitting earth with great impact, and planets being simultaneously shaken.

Yet, the assurance is clear. If we see these signs, we should be aware that the events being heralded by them—the end of the world and the second coming of Jesus—will happen very soon, shortly. Many will simply ignore these signs, and will go on as usual, but the happening of the signs is in itself proof of the truthfulness of the Book where they were written.

THE PROBLEMS WITH AQUINO GOV’T: Malacanang spokesman Manolo Quezon, if he wants to be truthful on the issue of the Aquino government’s promised aid to the families of the 44 slain officers of the Special Action Force (SAF 44), should come out with vouchers or other receipts showing receipt by the families of that aid. It is not enough for him to simply say aid had already been given to the families.

Sure, Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. may have gained political mileage and more votes by his statement, given after an audience with families of the slain officers, that the government failed to deliver on its promised aid. Yet, if that is the truth, it must be told and not hidden, whether or not a Marcos or any other candidate is saying it.

The real problem here is two-fold, actually. The inexplicable inability of the Aquino government to discharge even its most basic functions and promises to its constituents, the Filipino nation, and its penchant for sweeping under the rug the truth, especially the kind that exposes its leaders’ ineptness, incompetence, and corruption.

BETTER SPIRITUAL OPTION VS. POLL CHEATING: I hope Filipino Catholics will heed the call of Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas for them to pray the Rosary daily until May 09 to fight off the “evil of election violence and cheating”. The only problem however is that many Catholics, even if they have been Catholics all their lives, do not yet know how to pray the Rosary.

The better option, then, while Catholics are learing to pray the Rosary, is to ask all Filipino Christians, whatever their religion maybe, to simply devote a regular time for reading the Bible, and, thereafter, for meditating on, and truly obeying, what they have read.

Jesus, our God and Savior, gave this assurance: anyone reading and obeying His Word, the Bible, will live a life of blessedness, materially, spiritually, and physically. Truly, the Bible is the only book in the whole world that contains apt guidelines and directions which lead to a righteous and prosperous and victorious life.
