Table Talk

BY Mike S Apostol

A priceless food for thought coined by Councilor Mike Alavar also a re-electionist for District 2. This “food for thought” is the most real character that is the cause of almost all failures of day to day events. Mudslinging against a political opponent is a “crab attitude”. It is a product of insecurity, jealousy and many times weakness in character. Councilor Mike Alavar hit the nail right on the head in describing some politicians and even friends and professionals. Individuals with a “crab attitude” are not only ridiculous but a disgrace to society. These are the kind of individuals who find happiness and satisfaction by pulling someone down, who has made a name for himself. You can find this bad attitude anywhere in our society, not only in politics but even in your place of work, social and civic organizations and clubs, but worst, even in the most unlikely place, the house of worship.

The other day, Thursday morning, Table Talk received a call from a good and long time friend in Manila, A former Undersecretary of GMA at Malacanang’s Presidential Management Staff, (PMS), Mr. Boy Ebarle, the son of the late Provincial Governor, “Bidong” Ebarle, a townmate and family friend, in Zamboanga Del Sur and a colleague at the defunct Regional Legislative Assembly of Region 9 Autonomous Government during the administration of the late former President Ferdinand E. Marcos. USEC Ebarle is now working for Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s pesidential bid and he invited Table Talk to join him in Pagadian City, Zamboanga Del Sur, presumably to prepare for Mayor Duterte’s arrival in Pagadian City on May 2. Table Talk expressed regret for not joining him but rest assure, I informed my friend Boy, I have been actively campaigning for Duterte’s presidency on my own, with my core group of neighbors, who even printed their Duterte for President shirt at their expense. I hope we will not be victims of “crab attitude” from friends now that Duterte’s popularity is so amazing that some are even wagering their personal funds for Duterte to be the next President.

An individual’s “crab attitude” is the scourge of society and their advices should not be given credence and importance because they are concocted by personal emotion and devoid of mental deduction to know the differences. A man with a “crab attitude” is the highest form of sycophants that can drown a gradual sinking ship at the fastest rate. Politics is not a game of chance. It is a process of calculations and deductions to derive  the best option to undertake. A “crab attitude” individual  decides on a matter through an emotional impulse that suits his personal discretion and not the organization’s over all objective. The end result is a failure of the organization at the highest cost.

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s alleged acquaintance with the “left” or the Philippine Communist movement is a matter that should not be a cause for alarm like the way his “crab attitude” political opponents are picturing him. Duterte’s alleged friendship with leftist is not a matter of ideology but done in his quest for industrial peace in Davao City. As a result of this alleged friendship with the leftists, Davao City was transformed into one of the safest cities in the world. And if this can be transformed nationwide, “industrial peace” in the Philippines is the surest way to economic prosperity.  A real leader should be an activist. Take time to ponder on the quest for peace and economic prosperity of some of the worlds leaders, to name some, Mao Tse Tung of China, Fidel Castro of Cuba, Vlademir Putin of modern Russia, Ho Chi Min of Vietnam and even American President Abraham Lincoln, who abolished slavery and led America into a civil war because Lincoln believed “ that a house divided and with one post cannot stand alone”. Surely and verily Mayor Rodrigo Duterte does not possess a “crab attitude”.
